Anyone rent a car in PHX? Super high tacked on fees!

I had a car reserved at the PHX airport location and taxes and fees came up to $130! Facility charges and more misc charges than I have ever seen before.

Since we are staying at an airport hotel the first night, I did a search with Avis and they have a location 1 mile from our hotel. I got the same car, same rate, everything..... but my taxes and fees were under $50! I saved nearly $80 by renting at this offsite location. The only additional cost will be the taxi back to the airport after we return the car.... max $20.

I never hurts to check off site locations at some airports.....

Wow! Something must have changed in the last several years. We rented a car from the airport in PHX in 2006 and I don't remember $130 in taxes/fees. Crazy!

Not sure when you are travelling but just checked Mar 10 -17th at PHX airport on expedia.ca and a prepaid rate including taxes is $143CAN with Budget or $144 with Dollar. A full size is $164 Dollar. I am in Canada but a US resident can book there as well.

I live in Phx, and I had rent a car last time we flew back from Mco. Long story but our car would not start. All the car rentals are offsite in the same building including avis. It's like its own seperate car rental terminal. You have to take a shuttle. It's the most ridiculous set up, and a real pain. If you rented at the airport it wouldn't be convenient either. I do remember the taxes being high. I think you are paying a stadium tax. Cardinals new stadium that is.

Yeah, there is a stadium tax in there and a $6 per day facility fee to pay for that separate building to house all of the rental companies.

We are staying at an airport hotel the first night, so I did a search and found an Avis at a Sears Auto Center about a mile from our hotel..... by renting from this off site location, we are saving about $80! We'll have to take a cab back to the airport, but that'll cost $20 at most. Still going to save $60!
