I remember Coral Isle too. In fact, I don't think breakfast has changed that much other than Kona coffee being served. Of course, it did go through a few years during which the Tonga Toast wasn't as good. Anyone remember Pink Leilanis....we loved them. For other meals, I think Kona Cafe is a huge improvement.
Steve, I remember the South Seas character breakfast...the first one my sons attended in 1983. I don't think we ever tried the dinner buffet but remember it as a choice.
Papeete Bay did have a "South Seas inspired" menu for dinner but also offered a wonderful non-character buffet for breakfast when we first started staying at the Polynesian in 1983. Great fresh fruit, those waffles, etc.. After South Seas closed to become the concierge lounge, Papeete Bay Verandah became a character breakfast and as I remember that was when Tangaroa Terrace started to offer the buffet in addition to the a la carte breakfast that had always been offered.
