Anyone remeber the Coral Isle Cafe?

I remember Coral Isle too. In fact, I don't think breakfast has changed that much other than Kona coffee being served. Of course, it did go through a few years during which the Tonga Toast wasn't as good. Anyone remember Pink Leilanis....we loved them. For other meals, I think Kona Cafe is a huge improvement.;)

Steve, I remember the South Seas character breakfast...the first one my sons attended in 1983. I don't think we ever tried the dinner buffet but remember it as a choice.

Papeete Bay did have a "South Seas inspired" menu for dinner but also offered a wonderful non-character buffet for breakfast when we first started staying at the Polynesian in 1983. Great fresh fruit, those waffles, etc.. After South Seas closed to become the concierge lounge, Papeete Bay Verandah became a character breakfast and as I remember that was when Tangaroa Terrace started to offer the buffet in addition to the a la carte breakfast that had always been offered.

More memories... as best as I can remember Captain Cook's has always occupied the same space with the same name although it has been renovated at least once and I think twice during our years. It used to have real ice cream...anyone remember the Maui Wowie? It was a bunch of scoops of different ice creams with multiple toppings...kind of like Beaches and Creams kitchen sink without the sink. After real ice cream was discontinued, for a few years soft serve was offered. Now of course just frozen treats.

BaciBecky, I remember the screen door at the Snack Isle. It had a shorter menu than Captian Cook's as I recall but you could get whole pizzas there too which were decent.

sunkissed212, I remember that play area outside the shops and Captain Cooks. Steve, that was before it was rebuilt up by Hawaii and Samoa.

jaygatz, I loved the breakfast buffet at the Top of the World, too.

Disney Fool, I'll join you in a moment of memory...ah, sweet memories.:sunny:

Memories are Magical!!!!

Thanks, folks and keep 'em coming ;)

BCV, I'm sooo glad you remember the screen door at the Snack Isle...yep, and the pretty decent whole pizzas and not too bad burgers. ::yes::

You know what else I remember is how big the arcade used to be. It's so tiny now but it used to be that entire section of the building it's in...not just that front little section. My brother's and I could spend an entire day in there. We would save our quarters all year just to spend them in the arcades at the poly and at the CR...those were the best ones!

I remember the real ice cream they used to have at coral isle...the strawberry banana swirl was THE BEST! I wish that I could find something like that now a days.

sunkissed212, I meant that Captain Cooks had real ice cream. :D Sorry if I wasn't clear.

Strawberry banana swirl sound good...and very tropical!::yes::

edited to add a couple of vowels to that ice cream!;)

Yes I miss the Coral Isle Cafe. I loved the Chicken Moiri (spelling?) sandwich. When Kona first opened the chef made it for me. I also remember Tangarora Terrace. Miss that to. I also wish Disney would stop fixing what isn't broken, but I do understand their desire to upgrade and reinvent stuff. It's just that for some of us, Disney holds so many memories and magic that we want "same time next time" kind of feeling. I don't visit Disney that much (2X a year average) that the same thing gets boring for me, in fact I look forward to the "same ole stuff".

I also look forward to that feeling of "going home" - a kind a familiar feeling that adds to my vacation. It gets lost with so many changes!! BUT it is still there and can be found..esp when walking into the MK on the first morning or EPCOT and hearing the music and seeing Spaceship Earth. sigh...;)

YES!! I remember and I did not even realize it's no longer called the Barefoot Bar because I still think of it that way!!

Anyone remember when these changes went into effect?

The pool bar is known as the Barefoot bar. At least it was in May of this year. Was there another bar known as the Barefoot bar?

It's always been the Barefoot Bar, but I thought someone wrote that it had changed.

Great place for getting a nice cool drink to enjoy while sitting on a swing on the beach!

I agree! You will find me at the pool, drink in hand, every day!

Boy what did I start here? It looks like we all miss some of the old Poly. I loved Tangora Terrace. My favorite part was eating at the buffet and also getting the tonga toast. I just checked out the tikiman's site. I have to say that's really complete, a must see! I don't remeber the barefoot bar, although I had been to the world during that time we never stayed in a deluxe resort until the late eighties(my parents won the lottery, only a few K though).
