Anyone recently stay at AS-Sports?

I'm in the middle of a week stay at ASSpo right now, second floor building 9 (baseball) corner room facing the pool. We have been nothing but pleased. Clean room, not too noisy even thought it IS by the pool, and clean grounds. this morning I saw CMs cleaning the walkway and I saw another painting. We came back to the room mid-day Monday and all the grass in the "outfield" of the pool was gone! By today mid-day it had been re-sodded. Yes, you can hear the toilets flush occasionally, but not any more than in any comparably sized or priced hotel elsewhere. Yes there is more kid-related noise and sometimes dirt, but that is to be expected if you stay at a value where families with kids tend to stay. I have previously stayed at ASMo and find both to be equally enjoyable.
I was not talking hearing the toilets flushing, that is normal for any of the All Stars.. I was talking there was air in the pipes.. anytime some one used water in one of the surrounding rooms, the pipes started humming. They front desk admitted to knowing that there was a problem with the pipes and that they had been working on replacing some things. They told me it was bldgs 8 & 9. This happened for the first 8 days of my stay. By the end of my stay it had been all repaired. I wished it was just the normal "flushing sounds".. it was the air sounds.. and it was louder than the TV. The grass by the pool was completly dead, that explains why, they were resoding and they didn't care. For 12 days, I looked at what was "hay" around the pool.

A couple of years ago I stayed at CR in the wings, at all hours you heard people running up and down the hallway. The room over us had probably a child jumping up and down on the bed, it started at 6:00am and we were out late the night before. When staying at Poly we heard the people next door opening and slamming the dresser drawers. At least with All Star it doesn't cost as much. When paying $300 + a night I want quiet.

We'll be at ASsports Sept 6-10. Since I have free dining we can't switch, ASSports is the only value that has availability. I called to switch when I found out the pool was going to be closed. I had preferred booked. They did let me downgrade. In Oct ASMu was refurbing the main pool and while walking to the food court you could hear the bulldozers running and I didn't want to hear that on this vacation, so I downgraded.

It has been a few years since we stayed at Sports, but we wont be back. The food court was filthy!!
Actually, it wasn't too bad... we did eat there for most of our stay... :thumbsup2 That was one of the best parts of the stay :rotfl:

It was the worst part of our stay...there was food all over the floor when we had dessert late in the evening and when we returned for breakfast, late the next morning, it was still there.

Our room was in good shape though :goodvibes

If you are not happy with the room they give you at check in don't accept it. Last year at ASMO the first room they gave me had peeling paint and holes in the walls. I went back to check in and they moved me to a great room in Toy Story with no problem.

I think any mess in there tonight was my fault....I dropped a battled water off my tray, and when it hit the floor the cap broke and it sprayed everywhere! Oooooops!

I didn't accept the first room they gave me.

This was the second room :headache: They tried switching me out of the resort but they had no value they could place me in for 12 days straight. That right there showed me they knew they didn't have very many "good rooms" to give out in the Sports. They said they were able to do the Music for, I think 4 days, then I would have to move to the Movies, then move again after a few days. I didn't want to have to keep moving. I should have, it may have been better :confused3 . The room it self was basically clean (except for the carpets and drapes), the walkways and doorway were dirty. The bedspread was an easy problem to fix and they just never fixed it. The towels, there was just no excuse for that :confused3 how in the "world" can they even consider giving guests towels that are frayed and have holes in them to even begin with. As far as the drapes go, in a way, I can understand not replacing if they are in the middle of getting ready to refub the place. The carpet the same thing (didn't take pic's of that since carpets usually are worn.. no biggie on that one except for one that has a small child.. which I do not).
I have stayed at the Sports several times before and have always enjoyed it (other than when the Cheerleaders where there :rotfl: ), but never really had a major problem with the resort itself. I remember one time when staying in Dixie Landings I was in a room that was in dire need of rehab... and another time over at CBR.. that room was worse than the Sports I think (tub over flowed every night I was there  ) So I know it does happen at other places... not just values. I just feel that when you are paying the money that you are paying, Disney should be making a better attempt at the upkeep. It always seems my luck that either they have swithed me (as in this trip) or there was no other vacant room to switch me too (as in Dixie Landings & CBR trips.. trust me, I tried on them.. ;) )

My understanding from other posts is it is about a 10 minute walk from Baseball ASSp to the main pool at ASMu. To get from Basketball ASSp (the furthest building) to the furthest ASMo pool is a 45 minute walk. Personally, I've never been to any of these places, I've just been reading other's reports & that seems to be the consensus.
from the Music to the Baseball section is actually more in lines of 5 mintues.. in fact, I think the walk to the bus at the Music is closer from the Baseball section then to the Sports bus.. I took the Music bus back from the parks a few times because it came first. I just cut accrossed the parking lot. :thumbsup2 That is actually my reasoning for requesting Baseball section eachtime I go. I can use the Music bus, pool & food court just as easy as using the Sports. In addition to having a pool right there. As I have said in other posts, I have stayed at the Sports many times before, I just have not stayed there since Pop has opened up. When my kids were younger, my son played on a traveling baseball team, so we would always stay there, his team even played at Disney. (won Nationals for AAU 15U one year    ;) )

Poohbear67, while not listening may be good advise, but I provided pictures, how can you say for someone not to worry. This is happening and I am not the only one it is happening to! I would advise her to worry especially with a 6 month old creeping on the floor! She does need to be sure she gets a refurb room or not stay there point blank!

My apologize. All I said was to make her own mind up basically. We all have stories to tell (even with pictures)As this is probably not the norm for All Star Resorts. I know that you had a BAD experience and I don't blame you at All for not wanting to go back but I also see alot of people on here saying that they had no problem with their rooms at all. So to scare people away from the Resorts is not fair either not all the rooms are like that not even the majority. Again I was just saying to this person that they need to make their own mind up first if that means they need to call the resorts and speak with someone there and let them know their concerns well then they should do that.
:grouphug:

Just from reading this thread.. it appears the problems seem to be located in buildings 8 and 9.

If every building in Sports was as bad as this -- I think we'd see a lot more trip reports like this.

Sports is due for a complete re-furb later this year and I suspect these kinds of issues are the reason why.

I stayed there June 1-4 and it was already my least favorite value. Our room 7318 was great though. It was clean and everything was fine, although our neighbors were the big problem. They were a senior trip. The walk ways were dirty, but I did notice them pressure washing it at least 2 nights.

We had a ton of problems on our stay at ASSp as well back in March. I don't recall the building numbers, but we were originally in the basketball section, then was moved to the one surfs up building, after an encounter with bed bugs we were moved to another surf's up building. Tons of problems in which management did move us upon those problems, but never felt as though they were resolved. The grounds were filthy as were the rooms! There was a bunch of us travelling together and my roommate forgot to pack her swimsuits, which I took it upon myself to pack since I was last out of the room. Well, she went back to check before she talked to me and there were already new people in our rooms. When she asked housekeeping if they found the suits, they said no, but that the new people in the room did. Here our other friend in the room next to us, forgot her suit on the bathroom floor. Housekeeping did not find this, but the new people did........I don't think the bathroom was cleaned at all! Ewwwwwwww..........never going back to All Stars!

I just feel that with all of the cut backs, Disney standards are slipping. They should not be giving towels that are frayed nor ones with holes in it. They should not be having dead grass even if they are resoding (12 days of looking at it was not my idea of "pretty"), they should at least be pressure washing 2 times a week during love bug season if not every night!. They did it once in my entire stay. It was on my 9th day. They were doing it during the day. Had I not seen them getting ready to do it, I would have opened my door to them doing it & been hit by the water :confused3 They did it at 10am  . Bedspreads should not have holes in it :scared1: Some thing you can understand as I said, drapes & carpets.. but they are still not nice to see. The beds to be made of foam and sagging in the middle. To sleep on something like that for 12 nights, I just could not do that. I had to have something else, there was no way possible for me to do that :sad2: I would have had a sore back, neck & hip the entire trip. My DH had surgery 4/26. He could not sleep on it either. He only stayed for a portion of the trip. Even for the 5 nights of his stay would have been way too uncomfy for him on it.
Upon returning from the parks in the evening, finding my TV on and the beds made but "messy".. makes you wonder what he maids were doing. I know when I left the room, the beds were unmade & the TV was off.
These are things that no one should have to be complaining about  Especially not at the prices that Disney charges :sad2: It is sad to see what is happening to the "happiest place on earth" I really enjoy staying onsite, but am starting to wonder, if this is what is in store and the ever continuing changing rules (new policy now ... per day rate .. higher weekend rate etc... ) offsite is starting to look a bit more inviting to me. I travel up to Disney often. I am less than 3 hours away. The majority of my stays are onsite, I may just be starting to make the majority offsite instead...:sad1: :scared:

I did email Disney today and sent along the pic's I posted here. I rec'd an automated response. I am waiting to hear a real response from them. I also sent the pic's to my TA. I normally do not use a TA but this trip I did. I belive she is doing a follow up as well. I think if enough of us did this, maybe Disney would get the idea that we have had enough of being taken advantage of. They may decide to get their "act" together and bring back some of the magic that seems to be fading away. For those that do not go often, you may not notice it, but for those that do, I think you might see the difference as I do... at least that is my opinion...

I am truely sorry for how bad your stay was. Let us know how Disney response to your complaints. I would love to know how they handle the situation.

We stayed there May 6-13 and found the resort itself to be okay. We loved the food court, great choices, great staff. We had the dining plan and they let my kids have cereal and milk as a snack.

I ordered a fridge and was surprised to find that it was the little cube one about 18" square. I thought for $10 a night it would have been bar sized like the moderates. Won't fall into that trap again. Could have bought one for not much more than $70.

That said, our room was not clean when we arrived, dd found 1/2 donut under the bed (the chocolate dipped kind in case anyone is wondering). Mousekeeping did seem to improve on the Wednesday, I guess there was a shift change. The rooms are in need of rehab, but ours was not as bad as the one you describe. It was worn and the beds were way too soft. I think we had 8110 ground floor near the pool.

I requested 3rd floor (for safety) parking lot view (for quiet), but got 1st floor near the pool. Our room was broken into the first night, and my daughters wallet with all of her birthday money was stolen (her birthday was the next day). I personally never leave money in a hotel room, but she didn't tell me she was leaving it. We reported to management and security and they took a report. No other assistance was offered. To be fair, anyone could call up and say my wallets gone with $200 in it, how do you prove that? They were nice about it, but it left me with nagging unhappiness for the rest of the week.

We liked the bus situation. Sports gets picked up and dropped off first, so we always had seats, but I felt sorry for the people at Music sometimes. Someone always had to stand. I guess it evens out on the road home, though, we did our share of standing.

I'm considering DVC so I can afford to stay in a better class of resort. Still deciding if its right for me and if I can afford the initial investment though. Hmmm...

We stayed at AS Sports over the Memorial Day weekend last month. Our room was on the 2nd floor, Football building. Our room was clean and I have no complaints about the bedding or linens but I felt the rest of the resort generally "looked" dirty. I don't think it was dirty, just stained incredibly- esp the flooring in the food court and some of the walkways. We were only there for two nights but I wouldn't have wanted a longer stay. I know some people just use the resort to shower and sleep but I look for a little more than that. I had the chance to switch our free dining stay in Sept. to ASSports to add two more days but I will choose to stay with Pop and a shorter stay. I don't mind how busy and crowded the value resorts are, but I do want to return to a clean environment.---Kathy

I have to chime in and say we also just returned from All-Star Sports (June 3-9) and we had none of the problems that have been mentioned. We were in the Touchdown building #10, in 346. It overlooks the X's and O's football field. Everything in our room was fine. I could hear our neighbor's shower running, but no toilet or other sounds. Frankly, I think you hear the showers because of the weird handles on the showers - you can only get the water hot if you turn the water up full blast. I was pleased with the towels we had - I had wondered if, because this was a value resort, we would get only four towels (four of us in the room) but we probably had 6-7 every day. Our housekeeping service was fine. In the food court, I noticed several workers with spray bottles and rags cleaning off tables as people left. If you approached a table that had a few crumbs or wet spots on it, they'd be right over to wipe it down for you. Our bus service to the parks and to the airport was fine too. Kellie

Just wondering, you didn't find the buses dirty? I did.. Like I said, I go often & I have seen them clean. To me, they were dirty. As you can see from the pic I have posted on my second post in this thread. The majority of them were dirty. You were there during most of my time frame. As far as the strange sounds, bldgs 8 & 9 were the ones with it. There was a legit problem so you would not have heard them. I agree with the CM's at the food court, they were there to clean up after you! Like I said, that was one of the best parts of staying there this trip. But back to the buses.. like I said (and pic posted) I did find most of them to be dirty and not up to what I have seen and am use to from Disney. The Sports bus also seemed to be the one that had the worst service out of the 3 on the return trips back from parks when they had individual bus service. I watched several of the Music & Movies go by while waiting for the Sports. It got to the point that I left the Sports line and went to the Music & took that one back ;) I was tired of waiting. The lines were long & I knew I was not going to even make it on the bus when it eventually did get there :sad2: Maybe it was just the time of day that I had decided to take them, I do not know. There were also several times waiting at the resort that I didn't make it on the first bus and got off the line & took my car. I am not sure if they expected the influx of guests they had or not  Yet one time, my DD and I were the only guests on the bus :confused3 , even the driver was amazed at that one ;) We had a nice talk about the bus service. That was when she told me they were very short handed at the time and that was the reason for the plain white non Disney bus with a card board sign in the window. She agreed with me, not what should be expected from Disney. Did you not see any of this? :confused3 Like I said, go back to page one of this thread, look at the second post. It is from me. It is a picture while on of one of the buses... you can clearly see how dirty it is.

I'm glad they resodded the grass back there. We were there in early May, staying in Baseball (first floor, courtyard view), and the sod in that area was a little bare.

We too, had a very pleasant stay in our room. The only notable thing was the bedspread was a bit faded, but no other problems in the room.
