We JUST got home from an extremely painful drive through GA coming back from the World. Whoever the Einstein is that thought closing the right 2 lanes of a 3 lane interstate on a weekend with no signage or warning ought to be fired. Around here, warnings are given up to 30 miles prior to lane closure, and basic paving work is done at night. This was northbound about 50 miles south of Atlanta on Saturday 10-20. The portable message board was placed about 2 miles before the construction, but 18 miles after the backup started. My kid had to pee in a cup and we tossed it out the window, that's how bad it was. At least a dozen vehicles were overheated, and 2 accidents had occurred as the stop was sudden with no warning. Our delay was just about 2 hours.
IF a message board had been placed further back, I could have exited at US 41 near Forsythe and took an alternate, but it would have been too difficult to actually let travellers know what is going on ahead of them.
There is also construction near exit 269 NB, but a backup of only a 1/2 mile was there.
We made up the rest of our time by setting the cruise somewhere around 90 through the rest of GA, all of TN, and the southern 2/3 of KY.
The GA 511 number was busy the entire time we set in the construction.
