...and had no intention of using it again?

We are going to WDW in January. We have 2 DD's (2 and 4). I spent the "big bucks" on a MacLaren Triumph for DD2 to use on the trip and it has also become her regular stroller. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Now, DD4 is a little firecracker....she has continuous energy and we're not certain how she is going to handle WDW. She has gone on all-day excursions to the local amusement parks and has managed fine but I am pretty sure 7 days will take a toll on her. Here's my idea.....

Since she is TALL (45") and LIGHT (43 pounds), I was thinking that the rental strollers at the parks might not be a good fit for her. Originally, we weren't planning on bringing a stroller at all for her. We figured that if we needed one, we'd rent one daily as needed. Now, I am starting to consider purchasing a Maclaren Volo for her. DH is not liking the idea of shelling out $80 for a stroller that our 4 year old might or might not use for 7 days at most. She'd never use the stroller at home. I have been looking on eBay and even the "gently used" Volos are going for almost $50. So, I was thinking that I could buy a new Volo (found one on eBay for $80), use it for our trip, and then resell it on eBay for whatever I could get. I figure that even if I get $40 for it, my net cost is still less than the cost of 6 days of stroller rentals. FWIW, I wouldn't consider buying anything besides a Maclaren:snooty: That is only because the Triumph is easily the BEST stroller I have ever used.

Has anyone else done this? Is it silly to purchase something that expensive to use for a week? I really have absolutely no use for another Maclaren after Feb 1, 2008.:)

Also, a little OT.... does anyone know if the double stroller carry bags will fit 2 single strollers? If not, I'll get a single bag, gate check DD2's stroller, and send DD4's stroller (if we get one) as checked luggage and let ME deal with it.

Yes. I have bought and sold strollers specifically for Disney. In fact I just did it, bought a Peg Pliko Lite for my three yr old, used it for a trip last month, then sold it :).

Your 4yr will need a stroller. I thought my 5yr old wouldn't and by day 3 he was a mess (we brought one for him, just didn't use it the first couple of days) and we used one daily after that.

And yes, 2 strollers will fit in the double Maclaren bag, that bag is huge, I've fit a Peg and a Mac in one. I think 2 macs might fit in the single Mac bag actually, especially if one is a Volo.

Ohhh, Thank You!!:cool1:

I thought my idea was a good one, but DH isn't as convinced about the "resale market" for Maclaren strollers! :lmao: The more encouragement I get, the better....he needs a LOT of convincing.:thumbsup2

Oh, there is indeed a market for used Macs! In fact, I am thinking you're going to buy the stroller - and then, when you get home...

consider selling locally (using Craigslist, Kijiji, etc) before posting on eBay. That way, you might be able to avoid losing money to fees!!

More money back in your pocket :thumbsup2

I just wanted to say we just got back 2-1/2 wks ago w/our 4.5yr old and we wouldn't have survived without a stroller. That is a lot of standing and walking, plus it rained quite a bit during the first week of our trip and the stroller with rain cover was a nice shelter between rides for ds. He doesn't really use a stroller any more at home either. I think you will really appreciate having your own stroller and if you can get a few $$ back after the trip is over then that's a pretty good deal.

I think its a great idea. Since you have a two year old even if you dont sell the Mac you can always use a second stroller, especially one as light as the Volo. Its a great idea for the the age of your children to always have a stroller for them. I have a DS 3 DS 5 and DD7, we usually rent a double and bring a single, a few nights during the trip my husband had to carry my 5 year old back to the hotel while I pushed my youngest and walked with my daughter. Its not a waste, it will make everyones time more enjoyable and less stressful.

A few years ago we bought a double stroller for our then 5&6? 6&7? 7&8? year old boys (can't remember exact ages). I forget the name of the stroller but it was built by the same people that make the strollers you rent at Disney. Weight capacity was 150 lbs. and cost about $400. We used it for 3-4 trips, so figured it was cheaper to buy than rent one.

It's still in the basement - I really should sell it since the boys are now 9&10 and I don't forsee any more kids in our future. :sad1:

So is $50 a pretty good price for a new Maclaren Volo? we have a newer stroller, don't remember what kind it is but my daughter wanted one with a table so we just got it over the summer, but it weighs a ton and I'm not lugging it to Florida on an airplane.
I think I might also get a Volo, I know it dosen't have a table but she'll live for a few days w/o one :rotfl2:

I bought the volo...just a week ago. For my 4 year old and for my trip next week to Disney. .....This is why...Last year we rented strollers. He was comfortable but down so low that we had to bend over to talk to him and he couldn't really see well. He did not like it. I figured we spend $50 on stroller rentals each day too. Why not put that into a stroller we could have. I figured we could use it at Kings Island and the local zoos too.

I choose the Volo because of the high handles, retractable sun top and the storage underneath. We got it Target.

Hope this helps.
