Just wondering if anyone has ever packed up water in a suitcase?

I'm ok with the weight allowance and baggage allowance and would pack it separately, just wondering if anyone's done it before and if they've had a problem....

We took an extra suitcase (for the inevitable extra stuff we took back) and filled it water bottles on the way there. I would check it, and just make sure it's under the weight allowance. Remember water is a pound per pint.

I actually put a bunch of water in my carry on... I guess it depends on what you usually put in there, but besides planning info and my toothbrush... I don't really need anything else in there.

Just curious ~ WHY would anyone pack water to bring on the plane?! They do sell water in Orlando :)

We always bring water with us. Usually in our carry on's. We never rent a car and always Disney transportation around the parks, Mears or town car to property but never with a grocery stop (too anxious to get to Disney i guess) so we bring small snacks and water with us as the water in the parks is expensive and the kids don't like the water in the parks. It's also nice to have water in the room since we drink water most of the time. It gives us space for extras on the way home. Not sure about now but once my Dsis was traveling and tried to board a plane with an open water and they wouldn't let her bring it. Ours was all sealed and in our bags and they said nothing.

I packed water in my checked luggage this summer-3 bottles per gallon size ziplock bag.

I have a friend who works for an airline. I asked her about putting water in the suitcase. She said that with the way baggage gets handled, some might bust and get everything wet. She suggested putting it in a box that is lined with a garbage bag. That way if it busts, it will not get the box all soggy. She also said that checked boxes can't be thrown like the baggage can so it will be safer that way. Just watch the weight limit!

We always take an extra suitcase full of water, sodas, snacks, etc when we fly. Never had a problem.

I put 2 six packs of water into a carry on bag with wheels for our last trip. I filled the rest with clothes in case our checked baggage got lost.

Well now I am really peeved. My TA with AAA is positively useless and rude to boot! She misinformed me re my baggage allowance - Was told by her via email that we are allowed 2 checked bags each weighing max 70 lbs. SO meaning that we are entitled to 6 checked bags - total of 420 lbs! More than enough that dh and I could each pack a suitcase of clothes, share a suitcase for the two kids, take a suitcase with dry goods and a box/suitcase for the water. Perfect! Yes? NOO!!!!

I wanted to double check as I find more and more that we are misinformed. Good thing that I did check and didn't show up at the airport as planned! Turns out that our flight is a charter and we are not allowed the regular allowance.

Instead of the 140 lbs each, we are only allowed 44 lbs each!!! I potentially could have been 100 lbs over per person - so 300 lbs over and they charge somewhere around $2 per lb over the allowance. Would've been darned expensive!!!!!!!!!!!

So much for my checked food and water idea!.....

I'm going to have to check our luggage weight properly. We're 2 adults, one paying child and one infant on a lap - So we have to cram one weeks worth of stuff into 132 lbs total.

I am really really really upset with the TA. Going to speak with the director of the AAA office tomorrow. She messed me up on other things as well and I am really not pleased.

Do you know what your weight limitations were? I just went to New York City with a girlfriend and Air Canada changed their limit to 50lbs - I was there for a long weekend, came back with the bag much heavier than when I left :-) I think I was at 54 lbs on my return.

On Delta Song, the bag weight limit is 50 lbs. On JetBlue, it is 70 lbs.

Why not just pick up some water when you arrive? If you are staying on property, the two Hess gas stations (one near the BW and one near DTD) sell water at a reasonable price, and if you don't have a car, they are do-able as far as getting there using Disney busses. If you have a car, go to the Publix or the Winn Dixie that are near WDW. Stay away from Goodings, right outside the gate. You'll pay through the nose!!!!!!!!

I don' understand the packing of water....you can buy bottled water anywhere nowadays....Florida does have Supermarkets, Walmarts, Kmarts, Targets, etc...what's with bringing the water??

wendy, I assume the people who pack water don't have a rental car, and don't want to spend $$ for a cab or something to go to a store to buy a case of water. Also, I know for myself, I would prefer not to spend my vacation time shopping, so I understand the desire to just bring things from home, rather than spend the time shopping. (I don't bring water though, we get it from the lounge for free or buy it one bottle at a time :rolleyes1 )

tanmar, are you absolutely sure about the baggage allowance on your flight? 44 pounds is ridiculously low! So, that means you are only allowed ONE bag that weighs 44 lbs? That is crazy. I would double check that--and also ask what it costs to go over that amount. What airline is that?! Crazy.

BTW, this thread should be moved to the Transportation board, you might get more info there from people who have done this and flown on that airline.

I did in August.... we each took a bottle with us to the parks each day.... saved us an extra 2.50 a day

It is because I am flying in, don't have a rental car, and really didn't want to have to pay wegoshop or whatnot a $20 U.S. delivery charge for a case of water - wouldn't save me anything.

Correct... it is because we are flying and I didn't book a rental car.

Yup, completely sure about the luggage allowance. I am SO angry with my TA - won't be using her again.

We're flying West Jet. On a regular West Jet flight you are allowed 140 lbs per person. Turns out we are booked on a charter flight on a West Jet plane and charters have different rules - 44 lbs. That's it, that's all. I am in a big hullabuloo with the agency right now for no one advising me of this. When I asked what the baggage allowance was, my agent replied via email that it was 140 lbs per person. I checked into it to make sure and that's when I made the discovery that we are on a charter, and that it was 100 lbs less per person than I thought.

To boot - we are three paying passengers and an infant on a lap. SO I have to pack for 4 people into a total of 132 lbs AND have room for anything that we buy when we are there.

The kicker is the rate that they charge you - it's $7 per kilo over the limit. SO I advised the TA Supervisor that had I not double checked with the airline, I could have potentially been over my allowance by almost 300 lbs - If I had been at my limit, I would have had a surcharge of $920 EACH WAY. Can you imagine how I would have been, at 5 am at the airport with two little kids, up since 3 am and someone telling me I am over by $920!!!!

Ok, end of rant :teeth: It's over here only though - I still need to vent - I'll try to complete it elsewhere before I turn this post into a book :-)

IF I had known, at the time of booking, I would have paid a little more money for my tickets in order to have a normal baggage allowance.

ARGH....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so so so angry.

I just got back from a long weekend in New York City with a girlfriend, and while my luggage didn't weigh as much going there, it did weigh 56 lbs coming home (granted yes, I did shop for me me me) :goodvibes
