anyone own a VW Routan?

Looking at one tomorrow. Wondered if anyone had one and what they thought. Also maybe looking at the jetta wagon tdi, the gas mileage is insane!

It depends on how many family members you have. I personally would prefer the Jetta wagon TDI. Rotan is such big vehicle. I love my VW Golf. It's a gas engine car. I have over 410,000 miles and it still get 34 mpg.

We looked at them last year when we were buying a van. It is pretty much the exact same van as the Chrysler Town & Country, just more expensive and doesn't have all of the entertainment options.

We went with the Chrysler to get dual TVs, NAV, etc. for much less $$.

Ditto this! If you are going to buy the Routan, go compare it to the Chrysler town & country first! I love my T&C!!

My DH has a 2003 Jetta TDI sedan (he wishes he bought the wagon instead). It is a great little car & the gas mileage is fantastic. I think he averages about 46 miles per gallon. Diesel costs more, but you use less so it is worth it. His oil chages are more expensive though, so factor that in as well.

I heard the Routan is a Chrysler product with a VW interior. Chrysler engine, transmission, etc.

You should also look at the Dodge side, Grand Caravan vs. Town and Country....sometimes the option pkgs make pricing better on one vs. the other.

I have a 09 Routan SEL and LOVE it . This is our 4th VW and even though it's made by Chrystler, to me, it still feels like a VW. I never wanted a mini-van but now I won't trade it for anything, especially with #2 on the way! Feel free to PM me with any specific questions.

Ok, I know that they are a joint venture with Chrysler. We have looked at the chrysler/dodge vans. We have owned two. But honestly, I can't get past the real soccer mom problem of driving the chrysler van. And...the thought of spending that much money...just on a mini van...does this make sense? It's the psychology of the thing!

Well...we bought one. I had already priced the chrysler/dodge...and we got our routan for less than the best deal the chrysler dealers could do. Woo Hoo!! Now just to decide which dvd screen to watch!
