I work in fine jewelry at Sears and in my store the vacuum department is just next to my jewelry counter. I am friends with the sales people in that department and during down times in jewlery have listened to their spiel more times than I can count. From talking to them I have found out that Dyson determines the pricing on them, so within a few dollars depending on the sale at different stores you will find them at the same price just about in all stores. The deal Sears has going that makes them "special" in selling them is that Dysons come with a 2 year warranty and for the first year Sears will just replace them, not try to fix them. The deal with the different models is simple. They are all a standard machine, they just have different attachments that is what creates the price differences (I think some of the attachments can not be purchased separately). We have a fairly liberal return policy (30 day return if you just don't like it) and there have been very very few returns. They are one of, if not the best sellers in vacuums in our store.
Hope that helps some. If you have any specific questions I can try to ask our sales guys, they would give me a direct answer (no BS) because even though we work on commission, we would have no reason to try to "sell" each other.
