My Dh got my Dd a Chorkie (part Chihuahua and Yorkie) for Christmas (early). Does anyone out there have one? Any advice? ANy problems to look for?

Make sure you socialize the puppy ALOT. That's important for any dog. Chihuahuas, though, are known to be kind of snippy. They tend to not like people that they don't know. If you socialize the puppy now, you won't be as likely to have that problem later. The dog will be more used to different people and sights and sounds, so she will be more easy-going. Take her to Petsmart and the park. Have her around little kids and older people and other animals. Also, make sure to feed the dog dry food. A lot of people with small dogs feed them strictly soft food and/or table scraps. Soft food does not clean the teeth and as the dog gets older, her teeth will be much worse than if she had eaten dry food. I had one dog at work one time that needed 17 teeth pulled, probably because she never ate any kind of dry food. It's very rare for us to get a small dog that does not need any kind of dental work done and most of the time the food is the main issue. One more thing...make sure you train the dog. Teach her sit, stay, come, leave it, etc.. Those basic commands aren't just tricks to show off. Those commands help keep the dog safe. If the dog is running into traffic, you can stop her by saying sit or have her come back to you. If you drop something on the floor that is potentially poisonous, you can tell her leave it so that you can pick it up before she can get to it.

Like with any mixed breed dog, yours can get both positive and negative traits from both breeds. Yorkies and Chis are known to be barky and snippy and have a lot of problems socializing. They often have problems with housetraining and anxiety. Make sure you get the puppy fixed, as being intact can lead to serious health and behavioral problems.
