Anyone out there with fine curly/permed hair that have product suggestions?

I have fine hair but a lot of it.

I got a perm about a month ago and still haven't found the best products.

I've been using OGX Fine Curls for a couple weeks and I think it will be my go to shampoo/conditioner (still open to suggestions though) but beyond that I haven't a clue.
I've been using a regular brush to detangle and then I've been trying the denman brush or a pick depending on my mood to get some definition.
The thing I'm hung up on is curl defining/anti frizz products.
I'm someone that does not like the feeling of products in my hair.

So really I'm looking for any advice on any aspect from shampoo/conditioner to types of brushes/combs, to styling products.

Not having a go to routine makes me want to chop my hair into a pixie so really any help is appreciated.

I have naturally curly hair and I am always trying new products. I haven't brushed my hair in over thirty years. I normally just run my fingers through my hair and that does the trick. The hairdresser uses a wide tooth comb though. I always use either Adagir oil or Moroccan oil followed by a curl cream- either moroccan oil creme or amika curl corps. I follow that up with a mousse - a rusk brand - not specifically for curls. These products keeps my curls defined without frizz. I don't wash my hair every day, just add some mousse and I'm good to go. This may be too much product for you, so i'd suggest testing out some combinations. I also pepper in Deva Curl products and TGF. There are many products out there for curly hair, you just have to find the one that's right for you. I normally don't dry my hair, it just air dries. If you do dry it, make sure to use a diffuser. Good Luck!

My daughter has fine curly hair also and lots of it. She has had it straightened which worked wonders for her.

We have always used Redken products for our hair. Their shampoos are the best!! You will not be disappointed. We use the Extreme Length and Extreme shampoos/conditioners. I believe they have a curly hair one also. Try looking on JcPenny as they usually have great sales on these products!

I have naturally curly hair and a lot of it. I would have said thick hair, but my hairdresser tells me my hair seems thick because there is so much of it, but the individual strands are actually thin. I use a lot of product and it sounds like that may not work for you, but this is what works for me:

1. I rarely brush/comb my hair except in the shower with conditioner in my hair. I put the conditioner on and let it sit while I do other things and then use a wide tooth comb while rinsing.
2. I almost never use normal shampo/conditioner, but instead use a “cleansing balm”—L’Oréal makes the one I use. It feels like conditioner.
3. After I’m done showering I use a “curl enhancing smoothie” by Shea Moisture. I divide my hair in 3 sections and then coat the strands starting about 2 inches from my scalp with the product. I then divide each of the three sections into 2 and weave the 2 parts together and then use a hair clip to clip each section on top of my head. I leave my hair clipped on top of my head overnight. In the morning I unclip (hair still feels wet, but will dry quickly), unwind and arrange it with my fingers.
4. If for some reason I do not “wash” my hair at night, I use a giant hair clip and clip all of my hair high on the back of my head overnight. Letting it rub on the pillow all night just creates knots and frizz. I have a satin pillowcase that is supposed to help, but still works best for me not to do that.

Hope that helps or at least gives you some ideas.

My girls and I do not use brushes. Wide tooth comb when it is wet, a pick when dry. I think my girls only comb it wet.

Sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. I use Loreal or Herbal Essences, one DD uses Shea Moisture, one was using Maui but looking for other options.

I then use Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Mousse after washing, followed by Garnier spray gel for curls. Scrunch it all in. It does get a little crispy, but I need that to get some definition and then when it is dry, scrunch out the crunch to soften it.

I use this when I don’t wash and blow dry my hair.

My hair isn’t totally curly, just a little bit, but this enhances the curls nicely.

And it smells great!

OP, I know you mentioned that you don’t like the feel of product so this may sound counterintuitive but I would suggest finding a strong hold gel that works for you instead of creams and anti-frizz products that will weigh your hair down.

Use a tiny bit of lightweight leave-in conditioner, denman brush, then a good amount of gel in soaking wet hair. Plop your hair in a shirt for a bit then either diffuse or air dry. When your hair is 100% dry you can “scrunch out the crunch” to break up the gel cast and shake your hands through your roots for some volume.

If you find the right gel, your curls should be soft and not feel like there’s any product in your hair once it has been scrunched out.

I use a “curl enhancing smoothie” by Shea Moisture.
Shea Moisture products are great, but I really don’t think they will work for the OP especially the smoothie which I find to be super heavy. My husband and oldest daughter use Shea Moisture products daily, but I have tried a bunch and most of them are too heavy/greasy for my thick naturally curly hair so I think they will be way too heavy if the OP’s hair is fine and permed.

I have naturally curly hair AND it's fine. So when my hair is straightened, it looks like poo. I NEVER brush my hair, only use a wide toothed comb when my hair is wet (i.e., after washing it). To tame the frizz, I use Herbal Essences' "Totally Twisted Curl Boosting Mousse." It's about $3.50-$4.00 at the grocery store. My hair is not left feeling covered in goo, doesn't feel coated with 'stuff,' and it ends up looking natural.

I've tried many other products, even fancy expensive ones from salons, but this one works the best.

If I ever brush or comb my hair when it's dry, I basically look like a Q-tip.

Always liked Ouidad but they have new products that I haven't tried yet, used to smell like warm spices but not sure now.
Devacurl Archangel is really good IMO, smells like grapefruit to me.
Bumble and Bumble Styling Creme makes a nice curl too.

I've been trying to find good products that are unscented or low scented and it's been tough, I've wasted and donated so much, but the Giovanni line from Whole Foods and reg stores is showing promise.

I want a nice solid looking curl and minimal frizz and the hair needs to lay where it is placed or I get aggravated.

I’ve been using the Giovanni line for years. Good stuff. 👍🏻 Marshall’s and TJMaxx sell it, too, or you can get it online.

I have fine, wavy hair and avoid sulfates and silicones because they destroy my pattern (esp silicones but your mileage may vary)

I don't ever brush my hair, and I wash it every other day (most curly/wavy people don't wash that often but I can't go that long). The only product I use in my hair aside from shampoo/conditioner (I use Acure and Not Your Mother's Naturals brands) is AG Recoil. I scrunch one pump of that magical nectar into my hair after I get out of the shower :) On my not-shower days I sometimes use a salt spray (salt is better for Wavies than for Curlies, I think) to define my waves better.

I hope that helps!

AG had a Cleasing Creme that was amazing.

This is also my favorite to keep my curls not looking frizzy and I’ve tried a ton of different products but I always come back to my old favorite herbal essence totally twisted!

Aren't OGX products under investigation for making your hair fall out

I thought that was Function of Beauty the "build your own" shampoo/conditioner company?
I know people have also said that about Monat.

Can't find if anyone mentioned argan oil... anyone use it?
My stylist did suggest it but of course suggested one that she sells and its $150 for .5oz. I just cannot justify it especially when I don't know if I'll like it.

OGX got purchased by Johnson & Johnson a while back and are indeed under investigation for hair loss!

Oh gosh. Alright I found an article that said the ingredient that would seem to be the issue. Then I looked at my products and its not an ingredient so I guess I'm good lol.

Oh my, DD was taking all sorts of prescription medications for scalp irritation (didn't work BTW) after using this stuff through Middle & HS. I guess we'll talk to the Dermatologist and see what can be done if it was sort of a chemical :(
