we are staying at WDW hotel and therefore have transportation from airport and the parks....so do I really need a car seat for BOTH my DCS - 2.75 yrs old and 1.5 yr old!?!? we are going to have enough stuff dont want to bring it if not necessary!?!?!

Thanks

The last time we went our DD was 3 1/2 and our DS was 1 1/2. We flew and took the Disney transportation. We did not take car seats with us.

Don't lug carseats around. They'll just sit and take up space in your room. There's no seatbelts on Magical Express or the bus system anyway so unless you plan on taking a taxi somewhere or renting a car you won't be able to use them.

No - not if we're staying onsite and using ME. You can't use the car seats on ME anyway, so there's no point. I have a CARES that I use for DS on the airplane anyway, so we skip the car seats.

Nope no need for the car seats!!! Enjoy 2 less things to lug around and take up space. Another magical aspect to magical express.

we are travelling with our 8 month old. she will be on my lap for the flight, then the magical express to the airport...and onsite all week. ! was nervous about not bringing a car seat either--but we won't need at all...and I'm thrilled about having 1 less thing to lug around now!!

Have a great trip!

I agree with the others. We never bring car seats if we are flying and staying on site. Go car seat free and enjoy your trip!

Will we need carseats if we have a limo or towncar? Do they provide them?
By law a child does not have to be in a car seat in a taxi/limo/car service. Some car service companies do have car seats available (at least here in NY), you'd have to request it when you make your reservation.

Don't bother!! We brought a car seat for my son on our last trip and he had just turned 2. WHAT A WASTE! It was pointless for him. His tray table couldn't fold down and it just sat in the resort room the whole time. Poor DH was the one to lug it through the airport on his back like a backpack! With our carry-on bags and a stroller, we are NOT taking one with this time around for DD!! We learned our lesson!

This is NOT true for Florida. (NY and NV do have that exception though) Here is the law in Florida: http://flsenate.gov/Statutes/index..../SEC613.HTM&Title=->2003->Ch0316->Section 613

Basically, everyone under 5 needs an appropriate seat unless on school bus or tour type bus (or farm vehicle, motorcycle, bike...)

Some towncar and limo companies offer them for free or at a small fee.

We've always used Tiffany Town Car and they have always had carseats available. You'll just have to note it on your reservation.

So does this mean I cannot take my 2 yo in a taxi if we wanted to? I live in Chicago and have taken her on short cab rides and never needed a seat (although it makes me extremely nervous). I do not want to seem like a bad mom, but I will not be bringing her car seat (have CARES for the plane). Does this mean cabs are not an option?

we don't bring ours - there's no need IMO. They ride DME from airport to the resort, and ride park transportation from resort to parks. We've never needed a car seat. Our kids are 2.5 and almost 7.

sounds like that is the case although we took a cab 2 years ago from ASM to chef mickeys and didn't have our car seat for our 21 month old at the time - but we thought it was legal to ride in a taxi. It was a 20 minute ride and we felt ok about it but not sure if I'd do it again now that I know the law.

Officially, in florida, you are correct. Car Seat laws are governed by states and Florida doesn't care if you are in a taxi or your own car. On a side note, Illinois law requires them in taxis as well.

It does not mean that cabs are not an option. Just that it requires a little more leg work. Call the company and ask, and then call for a cab instead of just hailing one. They should be able to accommodate. It also means that if you choose to take a cab without one, you need to be ready to accept whatever consequences - regardless they are physics related in an accident or ticket related. My best guess would be that on site trips, they do not police much but accidents still happen. You have to make the calculated risk for your own family.
