Anyone not a fan of split stays?

I've considered doing a split stay, but to be honest, I just don't feel like packing up and moving during my vacation. Am I weird? ;)

No, you're not weird. We hate split stays. But we also have young children so packing up and un-packing is a big deal, so we don't like losing a day to move. We used to stay the first night at a Value resort and then move, but we don't even like doing that anymore.

I am not a fan of packing, unpacking, packing and unpacking, etc....

My DH doesn't mind, but that's because he doesn't do the packing....

Besides, I would think I was at the other resort and take the wrong bus! :confused3

I'm thrilled with my decision. We were so torn between a monorail & Epcot resort. Now we have the best of both worlds.

I think it is a personal preference. We have split stays all the time with 2 little ones and it really isn't a big deal to us. That being said, no I don't think you are weird for not wanting to split your stay. :paw: :paw:

I would rather get my room and make it my home for the entire stay. Too much to do rather than worry about all the packing, unpacking stuff. The only time I would consider moving resorts would be if I had a 10 day or more stay!

We're not. I don't like the time taken out to move and re-check in. Maybe in the future if we get a good deal for a weekend night (looking less and less likely), but we plan to spend the DVC points to not have to move.

Entirely personal preference. I can totally understand the desire to have different experiences. If it came without the time and repacking, I'd be in. But I hate packing in the first place (I usually pack the morning we leave!). :)

I can't see doing it- you are talking about three hours minimum wasted on moving from one resort to the other and getting re-checked in and situated. That time could be spent elsewhere- parks, pool, health club, etc. I don't get the split-stay crowd.

I never thought I'd enjoy a split stay until we tried it.

What we do is pack one suitcase with toilettries, another one for resort #1 & another for resort #2. We only take the suitcase we need into each resort (we rent a car so leave the other in there)

If resort #2 is DVC then I do laundry when we get there & was what we wore at resort #1 - making packing even lighter.

Split stays don't interest me at all. Once I get to my resort, I want to be at my resort for the entire time - no unpacking and packing and unpacking until I am going home.

It's definitely a personal preference. I didn't like doing a split stay. I like unpacking and making the room "home" for my stay. I know people who really enjoy split stays though, and I can see the argument for them. Just not for me. :)

I don't think I would want to do a split stay either. I just like to feel like once I get to the resort that I can relax and not have to worry about unpacking then packing again. It would be too much for me.
Kaycee, I'm like you once I'm staying at the resort, its like home!

But then you'd have to sanitize 2 rooms! ;) just kidding...was just reading the germ thread

We were going to do a split stay this trip between WL and Poly but with the free dining we needed a package and DH really wanted to stay at CSR. Now I'm glad we've decided to stay in one place, however, I can see how a split stay makes it easier to see so many more resorts. But I think I'll stick with one resort for now and ease my way into the split stays. ;)

It's not for us but I agree that it is an individual preference. Friends of ours, do it all the time and I've commented on it, to her. She shrugs her shoulders and said it's no big deal. However, we like to get there and make it home for our entire stay. DH was tempted this time to entertain the thought of splitting the stay but then decided he really wasn't interested.

I really don't like split stays. But ... for some reason I keep on doing them! I really can't explain why.

First, I don't think the OP is weird for not wanting to split thier stay, but I disagree with marksor. It doesn't have to take time away from the parks, pools, etc. Last time we switched resorts I didn't do the small packing up I needed to do until we returned to our first resort the night before we switched. We didn't come back early to do that. I woke up maybe 15 mins early the morning of the switch. We were on the bus at the same time as always, on our way to the AK, arriving just before it openned. We left in the mid afternoon, like we always did. Took a bus to the AKL (where we were switching to) and walked into the lobby and right up to the desk. Our rooms were ready and I had keys within minutes. We got to our new rooms, called about our luggage, it arrived in 10 mins and I did the same small unpacking needed. We rested for an hour or so and were out the door for dinner and evening parks. It really only took about an hour total extra time and I think it was worth it.

I wouldn't do it, I like to stay put. Plus I'm really just too lazy to pack up and shlepp over to another resort!

I used to be a fan, but not anymore. The next time we plan a trip to WDW, if we can't afford to spend our entire vacation at the resort we want, I'm not going. This last trip we went from POFQ to WL to Saratoga. The mornings of the move were wasted for me. I sent everyone else on and packed and moved myself since it's always my bright idea to split. It's ok for some folks but I've done it for 13 years and I'm tired of it. Nana is staying put.

I completely love doing split stays--we do it everytime! The packing/ unpacking is a non-issue to me--only takes a few minutes and the experience of the new resort makes it feel like two vacations in one. I love also altering our vantage point to the various parks. I can plan viewing Illuminations for when we are at the Boardwalk and MK and the electric water parade for when we are at GF, etc. Also, we have so many WDW resorts we LOVE I would be heavily missing the other resorts if we just went with one. My favorite combination is AKL/ BWI/ GF. Can't imagine going without taking in at least two in order to make the most of our visit! :cloud9:
