Anyone not a fan of split stays?

With two children under 5? NO WAY!!! That would mean I would just leave a speical toy/book/bathing suit/etc. and would need to go back again! Maybe when the kids are older.

Can't see the point of split stays. If you want to stay at a different resort, plan another trip. We had to do a split stay once and it will be only once. Couldn't get all the nights at the Poly so took 3 night at AKL in the beginning then moved to the Poly. What a fiasco, first time at AKL, hated the place and the move isn't all that great. They don't bring your luggage until 3pm and won't deliver it unless you're in your room. To me that vacation didn't start until I checked into the Poly, AKL is too far from everything and that park closes at five and then what?? Bus ride to somewhere and a long bus ride back. Give me a monorail resort every time.
Packing and unpacking isn't part of my vacation fun and neither is check out and check in, just like to do the check in once, unpack, relax by the pool, see the parks and enjoy the food and then express check out. Always use Disney transportation while there and will never go any other way.

I like trying different resorts, but I have no interest in packing and moving. I know we will be back with in a year. If I thought I couldn't come back, then maybe..

I can see the appeal of a split stay but so far I have not been convinced that the pros outweigh the cons. Especially now with two little kids under 4 I just cannot convince myself that the packing/moving would not be a huge hassle.

Maybe when our kids are older I might consider it (i.e. when they can help me pack ;) ) but until then I think we will just pick one resort and stay there the entire visit. We want to stay at every resort eventually. If we just pick 1 per trip then that means more WDW trips we will just have to make! LOL! ;)

Split stays don't interest me at all. Once I get to my resort, I want to be at my resort for the entire time - no unpacking and packing and unpacking until I am going home.

Me, too. And I think I'd also be the one getting onthe wrong bus all the time! LOL!

You're not the only one. It drives my DH nuts. I also like to unpack the minute I get in so I have some semebelence of order. If I had to do it more than once that would get crazy.

I do have to say it even drove us nuts when we requested a room change at all Star Sports and moved from one room to another. (For all, it was not a cleaninless issue, but it was a non kids trip and we asked for a king bed, and it wasn't available at first but the next day it was.)

I have not split a stay, and can't see that I would want to if I didn't have to. I could live with it if necessary, but it would make DH antsy. He just wouldn't be able to feel comfortable and settled in knowing that he had to move in a few days. So, since it's a vacation, I'd rather stay one less night, and stay in one place than have to stay in two places. I do admit, I can see why some people do it. Last time went to AKL and loved it, but was dying to stay at WL, too!

We had to add on an extra night to our original vacation. B/C it was not in the original plans, the only room available was at All Star Music. So the next morning we have to move to CBR.. My question is how long will it take for Disney to move (presumming they will) our luggage. So, I guess we'll have to take a bus to the transportation center then the CBR bus from there. Not looking foward to this part at all with dd (4) and ds (2). And since check in isn't until 3, I guess we'll have to figure out what to do around the hotel until then.... Still cheery though, b/c we're leaving in

3 DAYS

:thewave:

We did our first split stay in May. It will also be our last!!! I didn't like unpacking/packing up all our stuff twice!! I'm glad we got to try CBR, but like I said we don't be doing it again. (Watch this come and bite me in the butt!!)

What interesting responses guys! :flower:

It seems that everyone has a definite opinion on split stays.

I guess I really have to go with the crowd that wants to call a resort "home" on my trip. Just gives me more time to explore every aspect of that particular resort.

And then - I have the excuse to go back again to try another one. ;) And another... and another... :goodvibes

Though we loved our second hotel on the split stay, more than likely we will never do it again. Too much of a pain to pack. I realized how much of a luxury it is to stay put until departue day.

I love doing the split!! It works out when you're trying to do deluxe and can't stay there for the whole trip, so we split it with moderate. And besides, I get bored staying in the same room after 4 days! It worked excellent for us. We did 4 nights at Poly and 3 nights at POFQ. Two different world, like two seperate vacations!

Glad you enjoyed it. And I must say, I love your signature pic - it's good enough to be in a WDW advertisement - really! :sunny:

Awwww... Thanks Patti! :)

I would not want to have to move. I am a "nester" and have to feel that I am settled in before I am comfortable- similar to what others on the thread have described as being home. I want to get the room the way I like it. I want to check out the hotel so that I feel comfortable with all the facilities that I like to use- the ice maker and so forth, which is the best door to come in, the best elevator for my room, where the bus stop is, what food is available and where. When I establish the familiarity, then I can settle down and relax.

Another thing is that I tend to lose and to forget things. So when I check out I have to check and double check and triple check that I haven't left anything behind. Splitting resorts would give me twice the anxiety that I might forget something.

I've considered doing a split stay, but to be honest, I just don't feel like packing up and moving during my vacation. Am I weird? ;)
I also say you are not weird. We only have a room to sleep in, all of our time is spent doing other things away from the resort, so why change resorts, makes no sense to me at all why people constantly do this. JMO :earsboy:

Although it might be fun to try 2 different resorts it just seems like too much of hassle with 2 kids. Maybe it's something I'd do in the future but at this point I like to settle my kids and and stay in one spot.

I doing a split stay in December. I just couldn't decide on a resort and I wanted to be close to everything w/o using bus transportation alot. I'm staying at WL for a few days and moving to BWI. It's only the two of us so it shouldn't be a big deal. :goodvibes

It will be our first trip ever to the States in April   , and being Brits we have booked for two weeks. I really, really wanted the Poly and the monorail but couldn't stretch to 14 days at those prices plus £1400 airfare (about $2400)!! So I have booked 10 days POFQ, followed by 4 days Poly for that bit of luxury at the end. Reading all these posts, I'm now wondering if I've done the wrong thing!! We've only got the one DS, 5, so I'm hoping it won't be that hard!!!!????

It will be fine. I wouldn't worry about. You'll really be looking forward to getting to the Poly for your little bit of luxury. Enjoy! :goodvibes
