Anyone Know Why Sheriff Deputies were at BW Today (4/19/15)?

Again Bill, this is a very misleading statement. Ready Creek Emergency Dispatch is not Disney, it is a 911 call center that dispatches law enforcment, fire and medical personnel. They are trained 911 dispatchers and will act the same as any other 911 call center. There is no great 911 center that everyone else goes to, they are all localized.

And just like any 911 call center, they will prioritize calls and dispatch the appropriate emergency response personnel. Even outside of Disney, if you call 911 at a convention center, mall or other larger institution, the 911 call center will notify the security department there as to the call. The first responders don't always know their way around these types of facilities so they prefer to have escorts, also the security personnel usually will have a faster response time and can sometimes cancel the first responders if it is found that their services are no longer needed. But, to say that they will not dispatch first responders is not correct and would lead to massive lawsuits to both Disney and Reedy Creek if something were to happen and the appropriate personnel were not dispatched.

TisBit...I was going to post nearly the same thing. You said it much better than I would have.

This "misleading statement" (If you call 911 while on Disney property where do you thing the call goes, it goes to Disney who decides if they contact the Sheriff or Disney security")....it is implied that someone sits there and says "this might look bad for Disney, I'm not sending the Sheriff". In reality, the dispatcher has to decide if they need to send the sheriff, the highway patrol (aka State Troopers in other states), fire dept. or emergency squad. At one time, it was all Disney Security's responsibility.....but that changed back in the '70's.

I tend to agree. Even the one at 4:00pm had two sheriff's vehicles and multiple people being questioned right at the entrance.

My DH wondered if the cast member "fainted" due to the hands of an unruly guest.

I could see that happening. These people could have been witnesses to the incident, but couldn't or didn't wait around for the first round of interviews by law enforcement.

Getting back to the formation of Reedy Creek emergency services....it really is a fascinating story.

In an emergency, no doubt about it Disney will dispatch the appropriate agency. Disney also is very sensitive to keeping the public perception Disney positive and they will dispatch Disney security who will help determine if a Sheriff dispatch is necessary.

Do something wrong on Disney property and they will swoop you up and remove you from public view faster than you can say mad hatter.

Was that in dispute?

TisBit said it's not part of Disney, Bill said it was. I had no idea, but I also wouldn't have thought they'd have their own emergency services, and would have used local public ones, so I looked it up. Seems they do! I guess I forgot that it's so big, Disney itself is the "local" area.

What's different about Reedy Creek 911, or at least looks different, is no direct police connection. They have EMS and Fire but only security, not police. That said, there is at lease one and usually 2 Sheriff's Deputies onsite at each park during open hours, and I suspect the Reedy Creek radio channels are monitored by the police.

On the original topic, I agree that "cast member fainted" sounds odd to call police unless something else was involved.

And on the other other topic, once while we were at Boardwalk there was a limo and additional fancy cars lined up. We got a cast member to spill that Elton John was a guest and checking out.

We were staying at AK Kidani then and saw a deputy in the Jambo lobby. He did not appear to be on hyper-alert, but I did notice his presence. No idea what was going on.

Pretty amazing if you think about it. Over 51 million people est. in 2013 passed through the different park gates at WDW and how many crime reports did we read about, hardly none and most were major crimes or caught on camera.

It could have been someone there privately, so it would not be publicized. I heard once that Jimmy Carter was at OKW with his family on vacation.

Somehow I think it's cool that someone who could probably stay anywhere would choose OKW (as DH would). You just kind of think they'd choose a concierge (or at least that's what I'd maybe think). DH would say "Yeah, but that's cuz OKW is the best!"

This might be slightly off topic but last June we were at OKW and our late teenaged step grandson cut his toe at the pool. First thing you need to know is he is slightly special needs, a hypochondriac and an attention junkie.

We are all in the pool, oblivious to the fact that he had a full paramedic crew and a couple of cops tending to his cut toe. My husband was in a lounge chair 2 rows back and even he did not know what the flurry of activity was about. We were shocked when a paramedic came over to us in the pool and asked if we wanted them to take him to the hospital for stitches. My daughter laughed and said "Oh, hell no, is dad is a pediatrician" who was getting food at the window. His dad came back right then and looked at it and said to put a bandaid on it.

Point being that it was much ado about very little and we were amazed and a bit embarrassed that they responded so aggressively. Maybe it's just what they do?

In my experience they tend to respond to injuries very quickly. I'm not writing badly of Disney but they need to determine if the injury is a liability issue. Typically there will be management, security, and RCFD.

Unless things have changed, 911 was answered by Ready Creek Emergency Dispatch. Ready Creek Improvement District, building permits, emergency services, fire, and paramedics was created by and is controlled by Disney. Those are the facts to the best of my knowledge.

Hey Bill, being and ex CM here is the real info. We were told that we could use our cell phones to call 911 if we were not near a house phone. If we ever had to do that you had to tell the dispatchers that you needed Ready Creek. So no if you call on a cell phone you could get any place to come to your emergency. If you call from a phone on property you are not calling the dispatcher at 911 you are calling Disney who will then call Ready Creek.

Thanks for the info. In the news yesterday and on Dr. OZ there was a segment on how using a cell phone to call 911 doesn't always get you to the correct dispatcher and that 911 for the most part can not tell were you are physically located. For the most part emergency responders do not cross boundaries and has caused dispatch delays in the real world.

The point that I was eluding to is that Disney works very hard to maintain the illusion of a magical place on stage. I am sure that as a CM you were instructed what to do in an emergency and who to contact.

It's a wee known fact that Reedy Creek Trash Department employees are in fact Disney employees. They wear Disney name tags and get all the benefits of a CM. That's the only division of the Reedy Creek Improvement District that I know for a fact use Disney employees. There may be others as well.

Also, Disney has it's own hospital and doctors on property so when you're picked up in an ambulance on property, you head to their very convenient on site hospital....which is very well managed. ~Updated: this info is not correct. Thanks to the Dis'ers who pointed it out. :)

Also fascinating is the enormous amount of undercover security they have all around. They prosecute every shoplifting incident; whether it's a $1 pencil or a $50 trinket.

The incident at BW makes me wonder if the sheriffs were from the Orange County police or the Reedy Creek Division. Did the OP happen to notice if the cars were marked?

While staying at Kidani before Christmas this past Dec. there were all kinds of detective looking people and their vehicles around the lobby. The governor of Florida was checking out.

I don't think that the hospital info is true, I know that RCFD transports to other hospitals.

Disney does have a huge undercover security force and they don't like shoplifters. In the past they would detain the party but prosecutions were rare because they hate bad press.

Reedy Creek Improvement Districts board is made up of Disney executives, the districts residents are employees for Disney who live in the cities of Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista.

Hospital info is not correct, Disney does not have an on site hospital. A couple of years ago my Aunt was transported by the Reedy Creek paramedics to the hospital and she was taken to the hospital in Celebration.
