Anyone Know Why Sheriff Deputies were at BW Today (4/19/15)?

We arrived at BWV today (4/19/15) via ME around 4:00pm and multiple sheriff's deputies and vehicles were parked by the entrance. Several folks were being interviewed by them as well. Not too worried about it, we went straight to our room (have to LOVE the new "straight to your room, no check-in desk thing").

I probably would have forgotten all about it except when we came back from MK this evening around 11:30pm, more sheriff vehicles and deputies were around. All still out front and interviewing people. And "detectives" (the ones wearing slacks and white dress shirts with their guns at their sides) were now here as well. I'm not sure if both incidents were related, but I was wondering if anyone knows what might have been going on here (BWV or BWI)?

Must have been something major, Disney doesn't like the negative vibe of a law enforcement being on site.

Lining up early for Jellyrolls for their performance of "Roxanne?":duck:

One time when I was staying at BWV, Michelle Obama was giving a speech to a convention at Boardwalk one afternoon. Security was tight.

Yes, I was there at the same time. This board, as well as the newspapers and the Disney blog, publicized the fact that she was going to be there days in advance. Like jstarcze, I've been looking at the newspapers and searching the web for any information but there's nothing so I really doubt it was anything 'good' like a celebrity speech that Disney was hosting.

eta: by 'this board' I mean Disboards in general.

It could have been someone there privately, so it would not be publicized. I heard once that Jimmy Carter was at OKW with his family on vacation.

I had to stop by the concierge desk for another matter, so I also asked about the sheriff's visits yesterday. I was informed that the first visit at 4:00pm~ish was because a cast member had fainted. The person I spoke with wasn't there for the 11:30pm visit and wasn't sure what happened with that one. She seemed intrigued to hear that a detective was out on scene with other deputies, though.

If I find out more, I'll update the thread.

All this fancy stuff. :D

Probably a ruckus among "guests" or something similar. 24 police officers show up for anything these days. Probably dismissed or just calmed down and let go, or hidden so deep in the paper that God Himself couldn't find it.

If it were anything even remotely major, we would have seen something by now.

I find it amazing how often we hear sirens when staying at BWV....probably because the Reedy Creek station is right around the corner. One time when we were staying there, the Hess station had a lot of police activity all around it....a car was pulled over in front of the BW and the driver was being "detained"....and they were draining a retention pond next to the Hess station....and there was someone in scuba gear, too. None of the CM's knew anything about it. Didn't see any news stories either. We figured someone threw contraband or something into the retention pond while being pursued.

We were also there when that pedophile was arrested at the Swan and Dolphin a few years back....but we didn't know about it until we got home.

A friend of mine had something stolen out of her car while parked in the portico in front of the BW lobby. She went inside with her husband for a minute or two....I had forgotten all about that story until just now. People think that just because they are at Disney, there is a protection bubble all around them. Sadly, that is not true. I will not leave anything valuable unattended at the BW pools because of the walkway from DHS to the boardwalk.

So....it could have been a robbery or something. Orange County Sheriff's office must be one of the busiest in the country!

There isn't a protection bubble but there is a news/PR bubble that Disney enforces and outside agencies support.

If you call 911 while on Disney property where do you thing the call goes, it goes to Disney who decides if they contact the Sheriff or Disney security.

Seriously, Bill, where do you get your information from? You are obviously not in law enforcement and your statements are very misleading. If you push "security" or "emergency" on a Disney owned phone (like in a resort or a park), sure, you will be connected with Disney Security. 911 is completely different. Please get your facts straight.

Unless things have changed, 911 was answered by Reedy Creek Emergency Dispatch. Reedy Creek Improvement District, building permits, emergency services, fire, and paramedics was created by and is controlled by Disney. Those are the facts to the best of my knowledge.

Again Bill, this is a very misleading statement. Ready Creek Emergency Dispatch is not Disney, it is a 911 call center that dispatches law enforcment, fire and medical personnel. They are trained 911 dispatchers and will act the same as any other 911 call center. There is no great 911 center that everyone else goes to, they are all localized.

And just like any 911 call center, they will prioritize calls and dispatch the appropriate emergency response personnel. Even outside of Disney, if you call 911 at a convention center, mall or other larger institution, the 911 call center will notify the security department there as to the call. The first responders don't always know their way around these types of facilities so they prefer to have escorts, also the security personnel usually will have a faster response time and can sometimes cancel the first responders if it is found that their services are no longer needed. But, to say that they will not dispatch first responders is not correct and would lead to massive lawsuits to both Disney and Reedy Creek if something were to happen and the appropriate personnel were not dispatched.

We can agree to disagree. Disney created the first 911 system in Florida, Disney created the Reedy Creak Improvement District and Reedy Creek Emergency Services., 911 is answered by RCFD who decides who to dispatch when a 911 call is received. I don't think that this is a misleading statement.

Police and detectives there because a castmember fainted? Sounds like a cover story.

I tend to agree. Even the one at 4:00pm had two sheriff's vehicles and multiple people being questioned right at the entrance.

My DH wondered if the cast member "fainted" due to the hands of an unruly guest.
