Anyone know why my budget related thread was moved to Just for Fun...COmmunity Board?

I know that you're unhappy with the decision but the only way you're going to get an answer is to send an email to the webmasters and ask them that way.

But people have been trying to get ahold of moderators to close ancient threads (swaps that haven't swapped anything in 2 years) and haven't gotten that to happen. Budget Board hasn't had a moderator in *at least* a year, but I think it's more like 2.

That's why some people thought it was so odd that things got moved all of a sudden.

I wonder if the long-dead swap threads got closed....

Probably the Moderator and/or Webmaster team as a whole. And it's likely whoever is moving threads is going by titles, not actually reading the threads.

Good to know I'm not imagining things..LOL..

I hadn't been on the DIS in a week or so - came over here to the BB - and a good 3/4's of the first and second pages had threads that had been moved to all sorts of odd places..

What was really puzzling though was that unlike the microwave thread, the titles and threads were clearly budget related - without a doubt - and they ended up in some very, very strange places..

Hackers, maybe?

Seriously. I'm not going to take the time to read the rules at DIS but most boards have rules against publicly questioning the actions of a moderator.

Public debates over the actions of a moderator aren't not allowed on many internet boards and is might be considered rude even on board which permit such posts.

FWIW, I have never even heard of a board with a rule against questioning a mod, and definitely never been a member of one.
I honestly can't get over the humor of thinking a mod would be offended by the question posed

You are a member of such a board. Most internet boards have similar rules. That said I don't think a moderator would be offended by this thread. However we still haven't read a response from a moderator in this thread. A PM to a moderator is the correct, polite and probably most effective way of clearing this up.

Assume a moderator made a mistake. Is there an upside to publicly embarrassing a moderator?

so the mod related ones are restarting a closed thread, and attack on a mod. Neither one of those is "questioning a mod", nor does it say anywhere that is against the rules.

I wouldn't say I am particularly thin skinned , but I still fail to see the inherent rudeness or any possibility to embarass a mod by a this question posed. Maybe she wasn't following the rule asking to PM, but accusing anything else is silly

While I agree that the OP did not intend to embarrass the mod, I do think that the rules clearly state that openly questioning a mod (whether or not that questions is "point worthy" is against the rules).

I don't see a request to PM the same as a rule against any posts questioning, but I guess it is just semantics
I guess I find it silly for a couple reasons - there is never a mod around to potentially "embarrass", it is like saying you are embarrassing bigfoot by posting an embarrassing picture.... and I find the accusation that the OP was being rude by asking way ruder than the OP's question

There may be times where a situation develops that is not covered in our infraction system. For those cases we reserve the right to take whatever action is needed in order to ensure that our guidelines are followed.

My comments, initially, wasn't to cite board rules but rather to suggest a PM is much more likely to get a response. I agree with crashbb. I don't think the intent was to question a mod or debate board rules.

We've seen threads where posters attacked moderators for enforcing board policy on such things as banned companies and for pay swap threads. AFAIK the moderators haven't asked people to stop posting in this thread but neither have they responded.

I think the OP knows the situation. The post could either be in the budget board, good deals on microwaves, or in the community board, discussion on exploding appliance.

Not really. Something can be prohibited without the specific consequences of breaking the policy spelled out in advance. Crashbb bolded a couple of potential points. I quoted the section which lets DIS take whatever action they want if an infraction isn't covered by the point system.

I sent a PM to the moderators. The OP really should have done that. It's not really my business why the OPs thread was moved. I didn't ask why. My PM said we want guidance as to which forum is the appropriate place to start a thread on a given subject.

Letting us know what kinds of posts belong where seems like a reasonable request to me. Debating the boards decision, assuming some posters don't like it, not so much.

I don't think this happened but it almost looks like someone was testing an automated moderating tool.

One might, in fact, suggest that such an accusation would have been better as a PM

Oh, and just to be clear, I was never defending the rule - just suggesting that (in my opinion) the OP did fall under said rule.
