over the last week I've noticed my almost 4 year olds daughter's eyes involuntarily get wide eyed, like the expression bugged out, and they will sometimes drift to the side. It only lasts a second or two usually, but tonight it happened 7 or 8 times. Anyone have a clue about what would be causing this. As a side note (probably not related)she has been complaining of stomach aches alot. I am taking her to her doctor tommorow, but would like your opinions too :), thanks

It sounds like a tic to me...an involuntary movement. Glad you're seeing a doctor to get it checked out.

I would get it checked out. I wouldn't jump to any conclusions, just describe what you see to her ped. Hope everything's okay! Let us know!

thanks, I am more concerned because she's done it much more tonight than all last week combined (at least 25 times tonight alone). Sometimes they last longer with involuntary blinking involved. Her dad is across the country until tommorow night, so I get to figure it out on my own. Will get her in the morning, hopefully her doctor can give me some answers.
thanks again

Has she had a head injury recently? An ear infection? Is she off-balance or clumsier than usual? Sounds like a inner-ear/vertigo issue to me. My MIL had something similar, when she was sitting still her eyes would drift to one side. In her case it was fluid build-up in the inner ear and decongestants cleared it right up :thumbsup2

Well, it could be something or it could be nothing. She has to go to the doctor tomorrow and let them look at her. Hopefully, this is something minor. Keep us posted

Please keep us posted. I hope everything turns out well.

My first thought was a tic also. My DS used to get these. I found they were usually associated with stress or when he was really, really tired they would start. Then it would turn into a habit that he just had to work through and break.

Thanks for the well wishes..Her appointment showed that it seems to be a problem with the eye itself because she couldn't track the light right. She is now having these eye spasms very often, and is excessively blinking, she can't even watch tv, it's too difficult to focus. THe office is making an appointment with a pediatric opthamologist out of town, hopefully it's soon. I'm in tears right now, wondering what is going on.

You're going to the doctor. You'll find out what's going on, and then you'll deal with it. What a good mom you are to have noticed something going on and then to do something about it so quickly. Take a breath...take care of your daughter...and I'm sure everything will be fine!
