Anyone know the origins of this pin?

It is copyright Disney and has a swingbar back. More like a brooch I guess.
Any ideas where and when this was produced?

I can't give you an exact answer but I've seen this on more than one occassion in our area. Cranston, R.I. is a big costume jewelry city and this is a pin/necklace bob. The loop over the pin allows it to hang from a chain. Because I've seen it in this area on a couple of occassions, I'd guess it was made around here and a few made their way to outside markets. It's cute and probably desired by Tinkerbell fans.....you know how they are!

Can't help wit hthe origin but I did pass this along to someone who may... It is a great looking pin though.

I have a necklace that matches that pin, and I purchased it at Downtown Disney last year in the store that has all the crystal and Arriba Brothers merchandise.

I did not see the pin there, but her image is exactly the same as the necklace, and also has the black background.

Good Luck

The pin is made from Damascene (I'm sure the spelling is incorrect) which is a process by the Toledo company in Spain.

If you go into the Arribas brothers shop at on Main Street at either WDW or DL and the crystal shop at New Orleans Square in DL you will find a lot of it with many Disney characters. At the DTD Crystal shop at WDW they have had a display describing the process of how these are made. I'm sorry, I looked but can't seem to locate my paperwork with the info on it. I'm not sure if that display is still there but if you ask any of the CM's I'm sure they will be happy to explain the process to you. It is very involved and once you learn about it, you will know why some of the pieces cost what they do.

I have a spoon, necklace, pin & pill box all with Tinker Bell. I haven't seen that pin before, but I guess, like everything else, once in a while they change the design.
There is also a plaque with Tinker Bell but I haven't been able to find it. :( Someday they will have it in stock when I am there.

They are make also wonderful little plates and music boxes and some very large items. The detail is incredible. I saw a castle music box I would love to have but the price is up there.

Hope that helps. :D

Damascening is the application of gold or silver on iron or steel to produce a decorative pattern. Around the XV century it became popular in Europe, and at present, the art work produced in Toledo, Spain, is famous all over the world. The procedure used by the artisans is to cover the surface of the object lengthwise and across fine, narrow grooves, by means of sharp steel cutting tools. Then gold threats or fine wires are taken and the decorative pattern drawn, the wire being pressed into grooves by means of a steel punch. In order that the gold is perfectly retained, it is hammered in with a small punch and a hammer. Afterwards the part is blued using the same procedure as employed for blueing firearms.

Exactly!! Thanks Kitster for the explanation. And I guess my spelling wasn't that far off after all.

:D

I was in the store inside the Castle at WDW about two weeks ago and was talking to the CM who does the damascene. He told me he was the only one in the US who does it and just got back from an apprenticeship in Spain. So check out the store inside Cinderella's castle as well. They had a lot of really nice pieces and we watched him make some new designs. And Dom, they had lots of villians stuff in this shop as well.
