My Rogers cell phone will work in Disney??

We like to make sure the kids have a phone number or contact number when we go to large places in case dad and I get 'lost'. Would like to take the phone if it would work!!

Yes, it does. But it will cost an arm and leg to use it. It would probably make more sense to buy walkie/talkie things they sell now.
I only use the phone down there to call home and for emergencies.

Last summer, I used my cell phone all of the time we were in Florida. (I am in the habit of phoning my mom in Nova Scotia every night, DH relatives like us to check in every few days, and my stepson called almost every day to see how everything was) I am with Aliant. When we got back, I realized that I should have got a long distance plan. I phoned Aliant, because it was before my bill date, they back dated a long distance plan for me. Something like $75 for 400 minute (I think). Would have cost me around 350. without the plan.

As long as it works..... we just want it so the kids have a number to call to get in touch with us incase the unthinkable happens and they get lost!

Im also with Rogers and am going down in August. I got what is called a US Roaming add-on. For $40 (I believe that was the amount) you get one hour where any calls within the US and also to Canada are treated like local calls. I thought this was well worth it as we will sometimes use the phones to call each other in Orlando or call family in Canada.
If you want more time than one hour, you can get it but the price goes up. Why don't you call Rogers and ask them about thie US Add-On service-there is one other service you can ask about-for about $85 you can get what I believe is unlimited calling within the US or to Canada.
You should ask about this as well.
Hope this helps.

Honestly it is cheaper to go over to the US and get a pay as you go cell phone from Target or somplace like that. You get all long distance included and so on. The phones are cheap there and the service is quite good and usually vbery reliable if you stay with a large carrier like AT&T or Sprint etc. It will be cheaper in the long run to do it this way than to use your rogers phone. I used our Bell phone to call home one night to see how the house was and check in. The call was 14 minutes long and cost me 47 dollars with roaming and long distance and all the other crap they tack on to it. Remember not only do they charge you roaming but they charge you 95 cents a minute on top of the long ditance rate for it being a call in the US.

LisaSt...what kind of costs are involved with the pay as you go phones from the States? How easy is it to get two phones?...and where would we get them?

We have 2 phones from Rogers (family plan) and thought about possibly using them in the parks, etc. to communicate to each other (read: teenage daughter:rolleyes: ), or to be available when we do PI :teeth:, but not to call home. Does anyone think this is an affordable thing to do or should we just scrap the idea and use walkie talkies for the park only.
