Anyone know how Walgreens receipt rewards work?

I actually have an email in to corporate because this program is so messed up. Last week I was able to use regular coupons as well as 4 Rewards Receipts on a purchase and got 2 Rewards Receipts on my purchase. Yesterday my neighbor was told you couldn't use a regular coupon as well as a Rewards Receipt coupon. Then she was told you needed to have as many items as you have rewards receipts (this is actually printed on the reward coupon so I get this). TODAY I was told you can only use 1! Reward Receipt a person a transaction. The manager told me this was their district manager's decision and that other store accept more. How can 1 store have a different policy than another for a corporate program? So I will post more when I know more, but post your stories on how it works for YOU below....

I'm just going to warn you, you will likely get a different story from every store. On top of that, you will get a different story from cashiers IN THE SAME STORE.

One cashier told me I could only use (1) register reward per purchase. Another told me I could use as many as I wanted as long as my pre-tax total was more than the value of the coupons. This was at the same store.

It's hit or miss. Find a cashier who is nice and lets you use them in the most beneficial way and then ask for their schedule. I'm not joking.

About a month ago I was told the number of coupons could not exceed the number of items you are buying (reward coupons or manufacturer coupons).

That has been my experience. Would have bought a handful of little things to use my stack of register rewards on my expensive humidifier if I had known in advance.

I also have no luck getting new register rewards when I redeem some in the transaction. So I always divide my purchase up into two parts if necessary.

I think Walgreens is shooting themselves in the foot with these new register rewards. I've done the monthly rebate book for many years and that worked great. Now they have so many rules on the register rewards that it's just not worth the hassle. I asked one clerk if I should stand there and ring up everything separately one or two items at a time just to use up my rewards coupons. Bet they would love that!! I've found some stores will take the expired ones and others won't. Since they only let you use so many, they are bound to expire unless you can run to Walgreens every day. We live 25 miles away from a Walgreens. But I do know, I will quit shopping Walgreens if they switch to this new program entirely - which they have done with this week's flyer.

When they first started this I was having a lot of problems but trial and error has paid off and I might have a few hints that might help you out. Technically the limits are one maunfacturer coupon per item and they do consider the Reward Receipts a manufacturer coupon. So, if I am only buying one item I can not use both a MC and a reward. Also it is very likely that if you use the reward recipt to buy a product by the same manufacturer that issued the reward then you will most likely not earn a new reward - but if you use it to purchase a product from a different company you will get back a reward. What I personally have noticed is that some rewards specifically say on them thank you from Edge or Compliments of Bic, etc. right under the $ amount, others do not. It seems that the ones that have that will definitely not produce another reward from the same company. But the ones that are not prominently printed under the $ amount and just list the company under the name Walgreens where it says retailer seem to genrate new rewards when used with the same company. I have been lucky and have gotten some great cashiers who have explained these little strings to me and even some that try to help and break down my orders in such a way that I will immediately be able to redeem my rewards. Really, once you start getting the hang of it - it actually starts to make sense. Not that I am saying it is the greatest system but it does work and I love the fact that there really are no limits and if I choose to run to Walgreens every day I can. I should also add that I definitely use the envelope system when it comes to Walgreens. When I would of spent cash normally to buy a sale product that does not produce rewards I insteda turn over rewards and put the cash back in the same envelope which then allows me to buy duplicate items that I can not immediately use my rewards for without having to take more cash out of my pocket. Oddly enough it just seems to kind of balance itself. I hope this helps some - I know it probably sounds a little confusing. It's kind of hard to explain. If you have any questions and need me to try and explain again or differently please just let me know - I'll do my best!:goodvibes

-Walgreen never has anything on sale in stock so it isn't worth the hassle.
-I have never been able to use a mfg coupon with a register reward.
-I have had numerous occasions where the reward doesn't print.
-I had a clerk tell me last week that I had to spend more than $6 to use a $4.50 coupon since I wasn't spending enough and tried to sell me a brownie. I told her to put everything back on the shelf and I went to the next closest store.

I'll stick to CVS if they ever have a decent sale again.

OP - I forgot to add that I would love to hear what corporate has to say in reply to your questions if you feel like sharing, it would be appreciated!:goodvibes

You can't beat this deal though, and you won't lose out regardless of the register rewards.

Starting on 5/31 Walgreens will have Ecotrin on sale for $2 and you will supposedly get a register reward of $2. Right now while they are available, get a $2/1 Ecotrin coupon.

Either way, the Ecotrin is free but most likely the register reward will most likely print making this a money maker!

Thanks! Does Walgreens usually take internet coupons? I know sometimes they can be funny about coupons so I have never tried printed ones.:goodvibes

I have never had a problem with internet coupons and have gone to several Walgreens around my house. You never know though! Good luck. :thumbsup2

When you get to the website click on 'savings' and it should have a huge coupon generator thing and then check off the box for the ecotrin coupon.

Still nothing! It has been 3 days, so even THEY don't know what to tell me about their own program! I will update you as soon as I hear anything!:thumbsup2

So last nigth I FINALLY got a call from the manager from the store I went to. He confirmed athat you can use one register reward per ITEM purchased. So if you have 4 rewards you need to purchase 4 items (of any $$ value). He apologized that the manager I talked to at the time was incorrect and he is re-training everyone in his store on how to use them.

I am hopeful, but I really think I will still run into issues using these in the future....

Just wanted to update, thanks!

Thanks for the update! I had certainly hoped that corporate would of gone into a little better detail on the program for you and perhaps even put it in writing so you could carry a copy for future reference.:confused3 But please let me remind you that if you choose to use a manufacturer coupon for an item that will take the place of a register reward because they do consider them the same thing technically so if you have five items and three manufacturer coupons you will only be able to use two register rewards and not five. (that is in one order). Hope that makes sense and I really hope you won't continue running into issues at your local Walgreens!:goodvibes
