anyone know anything about computers?HELP!!!I'm going blind!*Fixed thanks to RoqueC*

I hope someone has some advice for me.My computer screen is like looking at the sun !!!Games play on it just fine,but the background,screen savers,and browser screen are all washed out and I can't darken them.The gray part on top of the browser page(task bar area) is all white,anything gray or light colored is white,the smilies are barely discernable as yellow...what the heck?!!@*#?!*?#!!

Are you the only person in your house? I'm wondering if someone changed the default colors for Windows?

If you right click on your desktop, then click Properties, then click Appearance --- you can find the colors that are assigned to several of the items you described.

I'm just taking a stab in the dark here. Maybe someone else can help you from here.

Only reason I thought of this is because a girl at work has her's all set to yellows & pinks -- instead of the blues & greys you are used to in Windows.

I just checked that and it is set for (blue).Thanks for the try though.The one weird thing is on settings(in properties)I usually have like 4 choices for color settings.Something like 16 high bit,32 bit etc....but now it only has 2 choices,medium and highest(16 & 32 bit).Is that the problem?If so,where did my other choices go?And if I change between 16 & 32 it makes NO change in the color.

Assuming you have no problem viewing text, SplshMtn99 is right.

In order to change it, the easiets way to modify it will be to select the Scheme called "Windows Standard" Once you Hit apply everything should go back to normal.

If this was an issue with your video card or monitor, the games would be affected as well.

I'm running Windows XP and also only have the 2 settings (med & high). Did you try shutting down (actually rebooting -- not just restarting)?

In light of this new information, then this means your video drivers are corrupt.

You will need to reinstall the drivers for your video card.

Games usually default to 800 X 600 so more than likely that's why they aren't affected. You are probably used to 1024 X 768.



Was there any new hardware you installed or and software recently?

i tried retarting like Roquec suggested and now it's back to normal.I just couldn't think of the simple fix because my brain was fried through my eye sockets from the bright screen!

Hey Coqui -- since you like to fix computers --- I've got a good one for you.

My dad calls long distance one night for my DH who always fixes his computer over the phone. Well, DH wasn't home. I tell my dad to give me a try to see what I can do for him.

He says everytime he clicks on the desktop icons, he gets the menu you would get as if you right clicked it.

Now, knowing my dad...... I say....... do you have anything leaning on the keyboard - like on the escape key?

His Answer: well, just the frying pan.
My Answer: WELL move it.
His reply: it's fixed now. Thanks.

DH couldn't believe it. LOL He would have spent hours trying to fix it. I only knew it because I DID spend an hour trying to fix a co-workers exact problem once until I realized the newspaper was lying on the key.

Actually I have experienced that problem before. To resolve it (in case it does happen and there isn't anything on the keyboard), you right click twice and then left click. This is how you resolve it without rebooting
