Anyone know about Sunterra?

Friends of ours just bought Sunterra. I looked at their materials and the concept seems to be the same as DVC, though most of the resorts are in the Southwest, I believe. Their "points" are called "sun options", I think. Does anyone know how much it is per point to buy in? I know their accomodations next week in Williamsburg, VA for a 4BR is 2500 options. Is that a lot? How does it compare? We are trying to plan together for a vacation in HH next Thanksgiving and I am trying to persuade them it would be cost efficient to try to make cash ressies at DVC HH, rather than use their options at another resort that I think is at Sea Pines or somewhere else close by.

i have many clients, who bought sunterra.It is terrible imho.
The value decreases 90% after you bought it.

They have resorts all over. They have been in bankruptcy in the last few years and sold off some of their resorts. It can be bought on the secondary market fairly cheaply compared to DVC. If they bought from the develope and can back out, they should immediatley.

Ouch!! This all sounds very scary. Hopefully, our friends will get their money's worth out of their investment. Maybe I should not discourage them from staying at their own timeshare next Thanksgiving, so that they will get further along toward recovering their costs.

BTW, just a couple more big trips and our DVC will have paid for itself!

That is a common story in timesharing in general.
