My cousin is giving me a pair of upholstered chairs. I'm not sure how old they are, but they are stuffed with straw or horsehair (they crunch when you squeeze them). At first I thought they were dreadful, but then he pointed out that they were "his & hers". They each have just one arm and can be set close together, soft of like a love seat, but separate. I wish I had a pic, but I didn't take my camera when we looked at them. If you know what I'm talking about can you tell me the correct name. I've tried searching the internet but haven't found them yet.

From the mental picture I am getting, it sounds like they are "courting chairs" - don't know what the official name for them. Sounds like they are very nice!

This is a courting chair:

This particular one is in the windsor style, and most courting chairs are one piece.

If you can get a picture of your chairs, I'll try to help you identify them.

I found that photo in my search too. My chairs are two separate chairs, that can be set close together. They do not have two arms, so that the chairs can butt up against each other.

When you put them together, do they both face the same way? Or do they both have the one arm on the same side, so that when you put them together they face opposite directions like a courting chair?

The chairs face the same way. They look like normal occasional chairs, with the exception of the missing arm on one side.
