I am just starting mine. I made cookiedough truffles yesterday and pecan pie bars today.
I will make candied almonds(the kind they sell at xmas in the mall), spritz cookies, pb fudge and choc. fudge, white choc. peppermint bark, choc. dipped pretzels dipped in sprinkles, vanilla popcorn or popcorn balls, lemon tea cookies, and russian teacake cookies. I think thats it:lmao:

For xmas day, I have to make spinach dip, ham/cream cheese/pickle rollups, veggie pizza, cheese and sausage dip, cocktail weenies, finger jello in xmas molds.

Im sure there will be more as per the kids request. Oh, I have to put together a cheese and cracker tray, and 2 treats for dc school parties next week. Probably finger jello in xmas molds, kids seem to love that:goodvibes

Anyone else just starting their xmas cooking and baking? These next 2 weeks are going to fly by.

DGD and I will do ours next Saturday - the 19th.. It's "our" tradition since she was old enough to kneel on a chair and hold a spoon in her hand..:lovestruc

However, this year we're cutting way back on the number/variety of cookies for various reasons.. We'll do a few from scratch and the rest will be the refrigerated dough.. We've decided it's more about the "togetherness" than the "how much" this year..:goodvibes

Have fun with your baking! :santa:

My mother always made English teacake cookies..I still make them to this day..just not a Christmas without them..these have currants in them (which I found very hard to find this year!), along with the flour, baking soda, baking powder, etc...and you put a 10X sugar glaze on them..(Mom always made it pink..I make it light green )
Just wondering what the Russian ones are and how much they differ?...thanks in advance
Happy Holidays..
Lynn

oh..forgot to answer the post..lol...I usually make a ton of stuff, fudge, peppermint bark, white trash, all kinds of cookies...but....hubby is on a low salt, low fat diet..so all that stuff is out if I want him to continue living!!...the only thing I did make is lovemygoofy's oatmeal, cranberry , white chocolate cookies..for a cookie exchange last Thurs..and everyone loved them so much, that hubby asked me to make more for all the girls up at the office!

Aww, what a great tradition! I love stories like that. Yeah, I have a box cookie mix from Costco Im gonna do, things don't always have to be made from scratch. Some are and some aren't. Have fun with your gettogether too!:flower3:

I just picked up the ingredients for shortbread cookies, got the recipe here on the DIS:thumbsup2!!! Also making some peanutbutter blossoms:love:. Will make more, but we have a Christmas party tonight and another tomorrow afternoon. Probably won't start baking until Monday.

If I don't get my Christmas cards finished before DH gets home in an hour or so, I'm going to be in BIG trouble:surfweb::rolleyes1!!!! Not because he expects me to do it, because I SAID I would do it. Luckily, I only have a very few left to do. Did most of them the other day!! Shouldn't take me more than 10-15 minutes.

:rotfl: What is white trash? Is that just powdered sugar that the teacake cookies are rolled in or is it a glaze. Can you color plain powdered sugar? Thats a great idea.

I am doing my annual sugar snowball cookies today! I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I was worried I'm starting too early. I takes SO long to do.

My MIL makes something called Trash. I LOVE it. It's like chex mix, pretzels and M&Ms covered in white chocolate. Its the best.

I just thought of another one I forgot, I got the better home and gardens holiday baking magazine and there is a recipe for homemade twix bars called Twixy shortbread bars. Yum

All of your recipes sound delicious! Hopefully someone posts pictures of their treats!

I've finished the red velvet sandwiches, the devil's food cookies with Oreo frosting, Russian Tea Cakes (way too short-bread/buttery flavor for me to make again), Oatmeal/Nutella bites, Pumpkin cookies, and the white choclate peppermint bark. Today I'll make cookie dough filled cupcakes, the cookie dough truffles (Thanks for the inspiration, OP!), Nanaimo bars, molasses cookies, ice cream sundae cookies, strawberry bread, pumpkin bread, zucchini blueberry bread and morning glory bread. Of course, I've been eating everything I've been baking so far so let's hope there are enough left for gift trays.

Oooo, everybodies stuff sounds sooo good...making my mouth water!

Oh they definitely do!
I'm making chocolate covered oreos, pb rice crispie treats with a butterscotch and chocolate topping, buckeyes, sugar cookies, gingerbread cookies, ect! Amazing things. :)

First..white trash is like candy..it's all kinds of cereal (you can use all kinds of Chex, all kinds of Cheerios, etc)..plain or peanut m and m's or both., nuts, mini pretzels, pretty much anything you want to put in it..all mixed together with melted white chocolate..there are several different variations of it on the DIS cooking forum under the sticky thread about Christmas treats!..Here;s the link for anyone who wants it....http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=973110
last year I used white chocolate for some and reg. chocolate for some..mix it all in a big bowl..then pour it onto big cookie sheets and let it harden up..then break it apart and bag it.

the english teacakes are glazed with the powdered sugar..you mix it with a little milk and some vanilla till it's the consistency you want..then color it..then drizzle or spoon it onto the cookies (I put them on a cooling rack with parchment or wax paper under it to catch the drips)..let it harden ..then store the cookies airtight

now please...what are 'Russian' teacakes?..are they similar to my English ones?

I was thinking of making some espresso brownies, double chocolate chips (recipe from Disneyland) and perhaps some homemade molasses cookies, I am not sure about that though

I'll be making lemon cookies for a party I'm going to tomorrow. I may make a few extra and bring them to work, but thats about it. My inlaws, on the other hand, go NUTS making every kind of holiday cookie you could ever think of!!!!!

I'll start making cookies, just to make sure the recipes are right this week (yummy) since I got a new cookie dough spritzer this year, and then next weekend make the cookies, fudge and chex mix for gifts. This year I'm also doing the dipped rod pretzels. I have a nice long bag that will fit two, and I'll tie them on top of some of our gifts for others. I"ll save some of each item out for Christmas caroling on the 20th.

Last weekend I made pretzel turtles, macaroons, white choc. chip macadamia nut cookies, and fudge. Today I'm finishing up by making choc. chip cookies, chocolate mint cookies, sugar cut-out cookies, and another batch of pretzel turtles. I'll probably make up a batch of snickerdoodles too after I go get some more cream of tarter.

This cookie has so many different names. Yummy! I roll in powdered sugar a few times to get them nice and powdery.

I started last week, with a couple of batches of gingerbread and a test batch of a new sugar cookie recipe.

Today I mixed up 3 double batches of that same sugar cookie recipe....as you can tell it was a winner....and will bake them off tomorrow.

Then on to my drop cookies....oatmeal and chocolate chip. My friends always request those and even though not overly christmass-y, they are really good.

Then I finish up with my butter spritz cookies with a drop of jelly in the center.

Not fancy, but it is what everyone requests and loves.

Linda
