Anyone in here decorate cakes?

Wow. You guys are amazing. I have never seen so many awesome cakes in one place :)
I have a question for those of you who work with fondant. Can you freeze the cake after you´ve put the fondant on? If yes, how do you thaw them again?

From someone on another site...

"No, you can not freeze a fondant covered cake. The problem is when it is defrosting, the moisture is trapped under the fondant and has no where to evaporate. Your cake will turn to mush and the air bubbles will be trapped under the fondant when you remove it from the freezer."

What you CAN do is level, cut, fill and crumb-coated a cake that gets frozen; later you can thaw and then cover in fondant, but never cover and then freeze.

Hope that helps!

another recreational cake decorator here! I took 3 levels of Wilton and have done other courses (fondant, cupcake crazy, etc) and I love them all! I've been dabbling in cake decorating now for about 15 years but i only do it for fun (family, friends, etc). I make about 2-3 cakes a month and sometimes get tired of it but its a fun hobby and almost always the cake ends up being my present.....ex: baby christaning today and the cake is the gift :thumbsup2

So ladies, the guy I had formed a partnership with to run my cakery out of his restaurant kitchen got arrested yesterday, so now I'm on hold again :sad2:

Wish me luck finding a new licensed kitchen!

Oh no!!!

Now that's crazy! What'd he get arrested for?

Evidently he was on probation, got in a fight with his girlfriend and got arrested for battery. While I'm not so sure about the battery, since he was on probation then he has to go finish serving his time.

I am lucky; the day I went to give him my first month rent and deposit (AND I had my first cake order thru his kitchen) was the day he was arrested. Thank GOD I didn't get mixed up with him!!!

Now hubby and I are thinking of just building a private (non-retail) commercial kitchen for my cakes. Just scary right now with the economy floundering around.

I have to say I now despise working in buttercream alone....and nobody wants an all fondant cake.

Very pretty Disneynut!

My last cake was all fondant, I wish all cakes were pirate:

I want to share but it's an adult cake and I don't need any points considering I'm hardly ever here to earn them properly. ;)

I am stumped. I need to make a large cake for my mom's 50th birthday, and I am stumped on how to decorate it. She doesn't like fondant, so I really should do an all BC. I know what the inside is going to be but not what to decorate it. I have a paper plate(to maybe match it to the decor, but it is mostly black and orange and purple...lol) Maybe I should do her interests?(Poker, football[New Orleans Saints])...IDK...HELP!

I have been lurking on this thread forever!! I love seeing all your cakes--they are beautiful! I am no baker, but I love to plan a party, so it is fun to see the cakes you do!

As far as 5oth birthday--what about a 50s theme (black and pink)? Or is there a theme to the party? Whatever you do, it will be gorgeous, I'm sure!!

Do her interests in colors that match the party, maybe? I like Poker, those are fun cakes to do.

hmmm, I wish everyone would keep posting their pictures....:(

Anyhow I did a webkinz cupcake cake. I had no idea what a webkinz was so I had to look it up. I wasn't told anything particular so I picked this one. It happened to be the birthday girls favorite, lol.

It *kind of* matched the invitation...

Hey guys. We moved so I've been away about a month. It took forever to get DSL installed and running. I've done a few cakes in that time. I'll try to dig up my camera cord to uplad them. I need to catch up on posts.

I haven't done any cakes in awhile, but my DD10 just made her first cake. It's an "Animal Cell Model" which she turned in this morning for her Science class.

Here it is:

Each candy represents a different part of the animal cell and has a numbered flag which corresponds to the description key inside the cake box. Can you name the parts of a cell? :lmao:
