I amazed that there hasn't been too much reported on this until the last few days, and now the bomb scare here in NY's Times Square has taken over much of the local coverage for us here.
I'm wondering if any of our Fort Fiends will be impacted by this continous spill of oil into the gulf? I mean we all will eventually feel the effects of this, whether it's the fishing industry or the price of fuel..which will suddenly sky rocket. I thought I heard that it has tripled in size since Thurs.

Sorry Scott..meant to post in the community camping forum...feel free to move this where it needs to be.

I've wondered if any fiends were affected too.

I read today that BP is going to pay for the clean up. Yeah...right.:rotfl2:

Of course BP will pay for it,,right after prices hit $4.00 a gal, and I promice you, they will. (you might wanna keep them gas cans full.

I don't know if it's true but I heard they suspended ALL fishing, off Fl. in the gulf til further notice,,,WOW, this is REALLY gonna impact the folk who make their living fishing,,and the prices of ALL seafood everywhere.

Also heard that they STILL havent gottn that well capped off yet !!

They're predicting a big impact here in Louisiana. Oily birds and things are already showing up and shrimp season just got underway. I suspect the prices of more than gas will be going up.

so is BP going to pay all the people who make thier living in the gulf... fishing, shrimping, etc... and the restaurants who serve the food... and the resorts that the tourists stay in for the beautiful beaches that are not going to be so pretty before long?????

It is a horrible situation for everyone!!!

It seems to me BP has down played this from the get go.

Now, since Thursday, it's tripled in size, and may go on for some 90 days.

Where are we..as in our government, in all of this?:confused3

Is this being left to BP to find a a way to cap it, or drill another relief well?..
Is the government going to use this as a way to justify the increase in gas already. I paid $3.19 this morning for regular unleaded.:rolleyes1

Im in Louisiana too....for some very odd reason, our gas prices droped .02 cents yesterday. Im pretty sure thats a definate sign that they will spike uncontrollably within the next couple of days. My wife waitresses at a seafood joint(Acme Oyster House), very well known for their raw oysters.....the future of that biz isnt very bright right now...although, in the last week or so, the customer count has raised tremendously. People are saying they want to get their oyster fix before its too late:sad2:...only in cajunville!!!!

I wonder how this will affect Gulf Coast Beach vacations this summer. I was planning a visit to Gulf State Park at the end of this month to take the kids to the beach...but Im not sure thats gonna be a great idea right now.

While I can't speak to the media coverage in the area's effected locally by this spill, the national media appears to have been somewhat late to the party if you ask me. Reporting whatever it was BP had to say about it..until Thursday, when it became apparent that BP doesn't have this anywhere near under control.

Wondering the same thing.

DH is at the annual Offshore Technology Conference here in Houston today so I will find out the latest once he gets home. If they drill again to divert, it takes 90 days...

I can NOT imagine the damage of this going on for 90 days will cause. Is that really something the Gulf can recover from?..:confused3

This kinda seems to be falling into "plague" conditions.....scarry how they dont need to use frogs and locusts anymore, huh?

I am in Clearwater, FL (Tampa Bay) and so far we do not have a fishing ban. There IS a fishing ban in Florida but it stops in the Pensacola area.

A lot of people who vacation at Disney spend a day or two at Clearwater Beach so I do wonder if this will change peoples plans. :confused3 Besides news coverage I would not be able to tell there is a spill. A little north of us they do have a bird sanctuary that has drop off stations.

We have a boat and my dad did mention that we might want to go out on it this weekend because if the oil makes it this way who knows when we can go out again :sad2:

How much more can the Gulf area take? :sad1:This is truly a sad epidemic. Just last month the government voted to allow more future oil drilling off the mid-eastern states..I certainly hope this current disaster CHANGES their minds. Instead of drilling we should be investing in wind or solar. The big oil companies are in the pockets of too many politicians!

We live a few miles from the gulf in Mobile AL. One of the main impact areas Dauphin Island is a barrier island near us. We camp and live on the beach there on good weather days. This has everyone here scared to death. We all eat seafood a lot and are expecting that to all go away for a long while if this thing can't be stopped.

But personally I am not directly effected financially. Just emotionally. We are signed up to volunteer cleaning animals when they start showing up. Please buy Dawn. They are donating all the soap for the animal cleaning and its the best and safest thing to use. They could have charged a lot.

Update! Bay News 9 8 o'clock update just reported we could see oil by Wednesday in the Tampa Bay area. Yikes!!

And you really dont believe that the "wind and solar" people won't be ???

Oh come on, it's just a different group of people ruining things and gettn rich.

Ain't say'n this oil thing aint bad, it's friggn horrible, I agree its really sad and believe it's gonna change things for the worse, at least for a long while, for everyone. Just wish they'd get that gusher stop'd !!

(just my opinion,,just like that was your opinion.)
