Anyone Here With Ears That "Flutter?"

I have had a "fluttering" inside my right ear for a long time. It is like a butterfly is in there, flapping its wings. That's all I can think of to describe it.
It doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes it lasts for hours and hours.

Anyone know what could be causing it? There is no pain, just "fluttering".

Sorry but the title made me think this was going to be about Dumbo like ears. Now I am thinking about people that have talked about getting bugs in their ears. Sorry I'm not any help.

I have had that happen. My son has it happen frequently. It is usually due to fluid in the ears (allergy) or earwax particles that "touch" your eardrums.

My son had some debris in his ear once (well we didn't know it at the time) but he told me that he was having fluttering. It then progressed to hearing noises in his ear. I thought, OMG he's losing his mind. We went to an ENT and he ended up having debris (wax and maybe some Q-tip remnants) in his ear canal. They were touching his eardrum and causing "sounds."

my dh has had the same thing for the past 3 years. he has gone to several doctors and had several tests and procedures done and the best anyone can tell him is "sometimes this just happens."

it drives him crazy. i hope yours can get resolved.

I have that sometimes when my sinuses are bothering me. Very annoying.

I have that problem too. Drives me crazy!

You probably have fluid behind your eardrum. It isn't a problem, just kind of annoying. I've had the same thing for years. I notice it more when I am congested.

I have this, too. I have noticed it's worse when I'm in a really loud place - like a gym during a basketball game. I attributed it to sinus/allergy problems.
