Anyone here tried Whole30?

Honestly, I see no point in it. Just another prepackaged way to cut calories.

I have never succeeded on weight loss when I had to give up things I enjoy. Even for three weeks. Now that I realized what caused my failure, I am losing weight and feeling better then ever. I do If It Fits Your Macros and 80-20. I eat healthy, clean, basic foods 80 percent of the time and then eat those other things 20 percent. I also make sure to get enough Proteins and Fats, then allow myself Carbs. All while counting calories.

It's way more awesome then cutting stuff out you don't have to.

It's not about calories at all - or weight loss for that matter. That is why I was so intrigued by the program in the first place. Its a pretty strict eating plan for 30 days just to get your body reset.

I am on day 2 and it's tough as nails! I admit I gave in last night and ate a bowl of cereal  and after the first three bites I was so mad that I cheated for cereal of all things. Even in just these 24 -48 hours I am truly identifying how much of a hold sugar had on my life. All the more reason I need to be doing this program. I have been hungry but that's because I don't have the meal planning down pat yet. I need to add more fats into the food I am eating. In the past I would eat a bowl of cereal as opposed to an omelet with a side of bacon (I found sugar free at the grocery). Crazy thing is, I did it because cereal was "better for me". NOT! Too much darn sugar in a bowl of cereal (and I'm not talking kids cereal). I am planning on earlier mornings to have the time to cook the filling breakfast I need to get the energy. That is what these 30 days are about, breaking bad habits.

My highlights in my first two days:
**The grocery is eye candy right now and I hate it. The bread isle smelled glorious and I haven't eaten bread in over 5 years (gluten allergy)
**Pineapple isn't as bad as I always thought it was
**Black coffee is bitter but I'm getting used to it
**My headaches have started already! :headache:
**Last night I put a box of frozen burgers in the fridge and put dinner in the oven but forgot to turn it on

28 more days....

Keep going!
You'll find that those things you once enjoyed (like cereal) just aren't worth it anymore.
You can do it!

Even in just these 24 -48 hours I am truly identifying how much of a hold sugar had on my life.

Yep. It will be pretty more evident as you go through the remaining month. You'll probably also realize your desire to eat doesn't come from being hungry either but from being bored, stressed etc. It's a pretty remarkable process.

FWIW, we cook our eggs in bacon fat. My husband saves drippings and uses it to cook with. As others have suggessted, there's also ghee. I like it and use it with mashed cauliflower as I learned I can't really tolerate dairy.

US Wellness Meats has a good selection of sugar-free meat but they always seem to be out of the bacon.

Good luck! The first week or so is really the worst of it.

Ooh! I love W30 cooking! DH and I never actually completed our first W30, but we cook that way most of the time at home now.

Some of the best advice I can give is to make sure you eat enough fat. Really. It is so against most of the advice we are used to, but it is the best way to really make sure you are satisfied. Also, never get hungry. That will always set you up for failure because there is nothing quick, easy, or convenient about eating on w30 unprepared.

I never did buy ISWF, but I love Well Fed. Also, I try to follow the template of making sure to have at least one serving of fat, a good sized serving of protein, and two servings of veggies with each meal.

Some of our favorites...

Shredded brussel sprouts cooked in bacon fat and olive oil, topped with fried eggs. (best breakfast ever!)

Tandoori chicken from Nom Nom Paleo with lime cauliflower "rice"

"BBQ" pork- Rub pork shoulder or butt with salt, garlic, and chili powder. Place in the crockpot with crushed pineapple, stone ground or Dijon mustard, and some apple cider vinegar. (Play with the proportions of thes ein a bowl before you add it in)

cole slaw with broccoli slaw, thin sliced apples and red onions. Top with dressing made of olive oil, ACV, orange juice. Also good with sunflower seeds on top.

Sweet potato salad- white sweet potatoes with bacon, hard boiled eggs, green onions. Mix with homemade mayo, mustard, cayenne pepper, and white pepper.

Two of my favorite recipe sources are NomNomPaleo and PaleOMG.

I wanted to bump this as I found it when searching Dis for Whole30 threads. I'm on Day 8, and while it's hasn't been a piece of cake, it's not as bad as I thought it might be.

Anyone else starting out the year on a Whole30?
