I saw the flavors, and I was VERY intrigued by the orange cake-- as a rule, I really really love orange, but I don't know if it's too much, or dry, or too sweet, or too... whatever.

Is it too strange to be guest friendly?

I'd love to hear people's opinions on the orange cake! Thanks!!!

If you can I suggest having a tasting of it. I specifically asked my planner to add it to our cake tasting because orange cake is my favorite!

When I first learned of all the cake flavors and fillings I really thought I would choose the orange cake with a blackberry mousse filling. However, the blackberry mousse was not at all what I was expecting.

I really enjoyed it when I tried it. It was very moist and full of citrus flavor. Definitely try or pair it with the tropical mousse! It's amazing! I wanted it as one of our cake tiers but my honey just didn't like the consistency of the orange cake. It was too moist for him. So I plan on having a small individual cake made just for me the day after our wedding.

Make sure to try the carrot cake with mocha mousse as well! That was my all time favorite (closely followed by the orange and tropical mousse of course!)

TOO moist?? Is there such a thing??? LOL. I'm always nervous about wedding cake. It's always DRY!!! I was thinking about the almond cake, too (because I'm kind of obsessed with marzipan), but I just don't know how everyone else will be about it. The tropical mousse I don't know about! And the dark chocolate peanut butter cream cheese sounds like HEAVEN.... I just love cake!! Too much to choose from! LOL. I wonder how the orange cake would taste with the bavarian cream and strawberries??

Haha to him there is a thing as too moist. He was also just afraid that not many of our guests would like it (even though I know they would, my family has orange groves) I also thought of having the Bavarian cream with strawberries as a filling but I didn't enjoy the taste of it. (and I do love Bavarian cream!) it was just kind of tasteless. The chocolate cake was tasteless and a little dry as well but again honey loved it so I made the small top tier his hahaha!

As for the almond cake, it was delicious, but I preferred the carrot, orange, and marble over it. I tried it with the almeretto mousse (which is a very popular choice) but I thought the liquor taste was too strong.

Haha! Yeah. I'm SO disappointed that the bavarian cream wasn't good!!! I'm not sure how I'd feel about the tropical mousse... I do'nt want something too fruity!

A tasting just isn't going to be possible-- it's so hard to just PICK something, so I have to rely on awesome people like you who DID taste!!!

We didn't try the orange cake... But we did try the orange filling and wow was it orangeeeeee. I thought it might have been good with chocolate cake but the orange filling was a little too overpowering for me. We picked marble cake and milk chocolate filling for the bottom and top tier and red velvet with cream cheese filling for the middle... So yummmmmmmm! The baviaran cream was yuck! I also wanted to try carrot cake... But my mom is highly allergic to carrots and didn't wanna take a chance.

We tried the following and these were just my personal opinion of them. Keep in mind that fillings change the taste of the cake. They are also in order of what I liked best to least.

Cake:
Carrot - Nice texture, slightly spicy (as in spice cake not hot sauce haha)
Orange - Very moist, full citrus flavor
Marble - Typical marble cake
Almond - More almond flavor than I anticipated, very nice
Red Velvet - Nice texture, subtle taste
Vanilla - Typical vanilla cake, slightly dry
Chocolate - Tasteless, kinda dry, no chocolate flavor

Fillings:
Dark Chocolate - If you love chocolate this is for you! (very well when paired with the marble)
Mocha - Nice coffee flavor (amazing when paired with the carrot, very holiday flavored combo)
Tropical - Sweet and fruity (nicely paired with orange)
Baileys - Very similar to the mocha but with a subtle liquor taste (goes well with the vanilla)
White Chocolate - I hate white chocolate but this was fantastic (goes well with marble or red velvet)
Almaretto - Heavy liquor flavor (goes well with almond or orange)
Orange - Heavy artificial orange flavor (goes well with vanilla)
Raspberry - Heavy artificial raspberry flavor (goes well with chocolate or marble)
Butter Cream - Heavy sweet flavor (goes well with red velvet)
Cream Cheese - Very bland (goes well with red velvet)
Bavarian Cream - Slightly watery consistency, very bland (didn't go with anything)
Blackberry - Very bland (didn't go with anything)

You guys are great!!! Keep 'em coming!!!

The biggest thing I'm worried about with the cake: that it will be DRY.

And the biggest thing I'm worried about the filling: That it will be DISGUSTINGLY artificial tasting and/or too sweet. I actually HATE buttercream, if that's any barometer for you guys.

Maybe the orange cake would be good with the dark chocolate filling??

We tried the orange and lemon cakes and fillings and din't think they cakes had very much flavor, so maybe it depends on the day, or it could be us. I would try the orange with dark chocolate or the orange with tropical, and or raspberry.

LOL Orange with dark chocolate was what I was GOING to get. Had to compromise because I was told "no chocolate!" Bummer because I LOVE chocolate. I asked for amaretto crunch. Hopefully that will be delicious, I'm crossing my fingers!!!

Hi, all...a bit of an "interloper" here--not getting married, and don't know anyone getting married at Disney...but I love all things wedding and all things Disney, so how can I not lurk on this board?

Anyway...on the subject of orange cake:

If it's the same orange cake they serve as a dessert choice at Animal Kingdom Lodge's Kidani restaurant, Sanaa (I've never had it/seen it anywhere else), it is THE BEST dessert in all of Disney--it even (just barely) edges out Dole Whips! (grin)...it's right up there with the best desserts I've ever had anywhere, ever. And I'm a dessert person.

Seriously, it's heaven on earth; I've never ever tasted anything I like so much...

Can you tell I LOVE Sanna's orange cake?

So you might want to ask your planner if it's the same recipe used at Sanaa...if it is, it's a huge "winner"!

Good luck and have a great wedding!

I am having an Escape Wedding, but found you can upgrade to Wishes cake and filling flavors. Has anyone tried the Lemon Cake with passion fruit filling? It looks like the tropical filling might be a good choice as well...will be make this decision without tasting.

We are having the orange cake with the tropical mousse filling. We did find the orange cake to be very moist but we tend to prefer more tart desserts and the combination of the orange cake and the tart tropical mousse was so amazing, we're having one layer of that and another layer with chocolate cake and alternating layers of dark chocolate mousse and raspberry mousse.
