LOL :rotfl2:

Actually, everyone else here is paying less than that for a real live person to come to their house for a few hours every week...what is wrong with me? I could afford the amounts I am seeing...why would I feel so wierd having someone come to my house to clean?

Seriously, I think that is really the problem...I would feel like I needed to clean before the housecleaner showed up.

i am so wierd.

If you're weird than so am I...I feel exactly the same way :teeth:

Godsend. I love love LOVE getting the house cleaned. :)

I have had the same person for 6 years. I pay $80 every other week. I pay her for her 1 vacation a year and if I cancel I pay her, this is me not her. Without her our feet be sticking to the floors, the cat hair would have taken over and we would be living in cobweb hell.

She does not do the kids rooms or our den regularly only when she can actually see the floors or get to the shelves to vacuum or dust. Our house is 1800 sq ft single story

We do the minor pick up so she can get to the surfaces to clean. She does all dusting, cobweb abatement, floors, bathrooms, counter tops, mirrors, glass doors, changes master bed sheets and generally wipes everything down.

She has a system and tackles oiling all the wood, or dusting the baseboards or the fake plants way up on the plant shelves on a rotational basis. She has gotten a little lax over the years, but she walks into a mess and I am always worried she is going to fire us so we put up with the occassional laxness.

Next to day care providers she is the most important member of the team and keeps the health department at bay. We love every other Wednesdays, fav day of the week :teeth:

I have an older lady (she is 67) who charges $10/hour. She is a bit slow, but very thorough. The boys have to clean their own rooms and family room, but she does the rest of the cleaning and the ironing. It averages about $60/week.

I have a 3 lady team. $10/hour each... takes them about 2 hours. 3300 sf.

My other lady who was with us for 2.5 years was $50 a week, 5 hours. She was awesome. Brought us homemade pies, Christmas presents, etc... when we were out of town she brought her DH with her to clean - he did the handyman stuff - re-aligning cabinets, etc.

The new ladies do a fine job, but they're not "Ella"!

I love reading these posts. I own a very stressful business. Money never comes in on time and we seem to do alot of scrambling at the end of the month. We are paid a very good rate BUT we contract threw the State so get paid when ever they feel like paying us.

SO.......My business partner and I started cleaning on the side as a way to keep the bills paid. Well we found that we like cleaning better then our "real" jobs LOL

We charge $20.00 per hr/per person and have had very good results. We have some wonderful clients.

THAT IS AWESOME!!! YOU GO GIRL!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

If we could have ours move in we would : ) we love Jan but I am not so sure she is that fond of us LOL No she is great and we wouldnt trade her : ) SHe comes on Tuesdays and I love knowing I will have fresh clean ironed sheets every Tuesday night : )

Ironed sheets seems a little much for me...but I know my mom and grandmother used to have that done.

I have 3500 sq. feet. It took her 8 hours. I can't wait to see the progression as my house becomes completely clean!

I have never had my OWN housekeeper, but all of the families I have nannied for have had them.

The first family I worked for had a lady who came once a week but I can't remember what they paid her. She did the basic cleaning but no laundry or ironing. I guess she tossed the bed linens in the washer but that was all. She was very sweet but didn't do a very good job!

The second family I worked for had housekeepers 3 days a week - one on Mon & Fri and another lady on Wednesday. I think the Mon & Fri lady was only making about $50 a day (9 AM - 1 PM), but the house was never dirty because it was cleaned three days a week! The Wednesday lady made $75 but she had to iron TONS of stuff. She was there from about 9 AM - 2 PM. The house was 4/3.5/2 LA with all hard wood floors.

My current employers have housekeepers twice a week. The ladies are all sisters. There are always at least 2 of them, but there have been times when there have been 4. The house is 4/2.5/2 LA and a playroom that always looks like a toy store just exploded. They make $60 per day and they are here for about 2-3 hours. They vacuum & mop, dust, change all the bed linens, empty the dishwasher, wipe down the kitchen, clean the bathrooms, pick up the playroom & mop the floor in there, wipe the fingerprints off the windows, empty all the trash cans, etc. I love Tuesdays because everything is so clean when I get back from picking up the kids at school! :)

I'd like to get someone to come in just to do the bathrooms and windows!

I'm actually looking at hiring a professinal window cleaning service to come in once a quarter and do the windows, they are just impossible to get clean without streaks, I've tried three different types of sprays and a couple cloths. I've got 27 windows, plus three sets of interior French doors...arrrrgggghhhhhhh!!!

We were just hired to do 2 bathrooms and dust.
Its perfect for us because we can only do cleaning 2 days a week and the small jobs are great.

$70, and she comes every two weeks. Lately, she has been skipping some stuff and DH is complaining, but she still does a better job that I do LOL!

We used Merry Maids once and they sent 2 young people, they did a horrible job. How did those of you who have people come clean find them? I mean just your run of the mill person who cleans for their oen profit, not a Merry Maid type deal? In the newspaper?

Word of mouth seems to be the best way. Ask your neighbors if they have a housekeeper they could recommend. The ladies my bosses use now used to clean for multiple families in the building where they lived downtown. Now that lots of those families are buying houses (the lofts aren't practical for families with kids!) the same ladies still clean for them.

I found the woman I have now by asking the cleaning ladies at work if they or anyone they knew did homes on the side. We like her very much, our house is 2800 sq ft., she uses our cleaning supplies, comes every Thursday, stays about 3 hours, and charges $70. Before I found her we had to go with a service for awhile (our other lady move to Texas), if you call and let the company know you weren't happy they will switch the crew around until you find someone your happy with.
