I've been thinking of growing sweet peas on a south-facing fence that needs "something". I may be thinking of doing this in the wrong time of year. We have very mild weather here in Northern California year-round. It does get quite warm in the summer (close to 100 on really hot days, low humidity, pleasant nights) Most of our winter days & nights rarely get to freezing. Anyone have any suggestions? I LOVE sweet peas and bought some seeds - won't cost much to try and plant them, just wondering what others thought.

Are you talking baout the perennial sweet pea or the edible sweet pea?

I love the edibles and we plant them here on St patricks day and then again labor day. They are a cool weather crop. hope this helps.

I have them! :) They are very cool - great climbers. I planted 3 roots, and had to pull 2 of them this year because they grow too well. I have them growing up a lamp post in my back yard. They are just starting to bloom now. Great colors too - lots of pinks and yellows and purples.

I planted some in my parent's backyard when I was about 10. They still come up every year (27 years later!) and are a little out of control. They're a very pretty pink though!
