Um, wow. I can't believe you posted that.:eek::worried:[/QUOTE
Sorry, what I meant was it actually makes people who are already a bit prejudiced think that this is the actual norm, I didn't mean for one minute that I think it is, we have a few very strange incidents like this over here too and just confirms peoples prejudices, sorry did not mean it like it came out
Carol, I also understood your first post right away, and what you said was in no way offensive to me.

thank you

p.s. who was looking after the kid in question if his parents were away and was it brought to their notice that the kid was annoying the neighbour by threatening to walk on the lawn?

Ok, I know I'll get yelled at for this but...
First let me state, by no means do I agree with what this guy did...to get a shotgun and shoot a kid, something must be psychologically wrong with him. BUT....it does bring up an issue....kids these days have NO respect for other peoples property. When I was little, I would never have just cut thru people's yards..we went around the block, and ran in and out of a yard in 2 sec only if our ball went there or whatever. Even in our neighborhood, kids leave their toys in others yards, go climb trees, cut thru yards of people they dont even speak to, and its not their property. Kids really need to learn some respect.

That being said, this guy is wrong, obviously, and again, I do NOT agree with what he did. If he had such an issue, he should have called the police for the kid(s) trespessing.

I completely agree. I did hear that the boy and his parents had been harrassing the man for over 5 years. I do not codone what the man did and I feel sorry for the family. We'll never know the whole story. It is just sad. :guilty:

Me too. I have friends that moved here from a foreign country and they had some definate misperceptions about Americans - all based on what they had heard in the media. If the media is your only exposure to a culture - it happens.

Yeah, I could see being ANNOYED, but I can't imagine being that angry. Whatever happened to complaining to the parents? My 11 yr old cut through a neighbor's yard last year and the neighbor complained to us (it's hard for the kids to tell what are common areas and what is private property around here, no boundary markers). We told my son not to walk through that way, and that was that.

Fortunately you're on top of things and your son is smart enough to listen to you. This kid went right back after already having an apparent altercation with the man over this issue and because he was dealing with a lunatic - it cost him his life.

I'm sure that man will be put away for a long time - it's not safe to have him living in society. However, I also hope that some people learn from this that you don't taunt a neighbor that's obviously off his rocker. Better to go the long way than to be dead.
