Hi! I also posted on the budget board but figured I would ask her as well.

Anyone use an unlocked IPhone on Verizon prepaid? We need to replace a phone and in pricing out options for a 6S it looks like the best deal is to but it direct from Apple with Apple Care and then do the $45 a month prepaid plan with 3gb of data. (2gb but 1gb extra if auto pay)

Just curious if anyone else is doing this.

Thanks!!

PS. I do know the new one comes out next month and price will probably drop on the 6.

Based on the title I can answer this much, I have used a Verizon iPhone on Verizon prepaid, it worked fine for me. Unlocked, I cannot say.

Straight talk has a better plan for the same $45/month (it's got up to 5gb, and you don't have to do auto pay). You can bring your own phone (including an iPhone) and at least in my area, the service runs on the Verizon network.

It has been my experience that Verizon will not activate an unlocked phone. (They supposedly will now that they've gone away from contracts )

Verizon and sprint use the CDMA network and are the only two large carriers that do.

Most of the other companies use GSM.

Verizon and sprint phones translate different wave lengths and therefor can not work on the opposite networks whether they are unlocked or not. This is due to hardware not software or firmware.

If the phone came from a GSM network company, it won't work on Verizon either.

I have an unlocked iPhone on Trac (GSM, piggy backing on AT&T). It's 10$/GB,which carries over, $50/year service time. I hardly use voice or text, since most of my texts go via iMessage and wifi is often available. That's why I went for the $50 service time. At my current usage, I figure maybe $100-120 a year total.

I think you'd have to have a lot of usage for Verizon or any monthly plan to beat that.
