My dentist suggested that I replace my silver fillings . He says they are too old and at risk for breaking. I haven't had a cavity in over 15 years. The thought of them being taken out and then replaced makes me kinda nervous. There are 6. He wants to do 3 of them this week. Anyone ever have this done?

Yes I have and I have one more that is starting to "fall apart"...so will have to have that one done. anyway it wasn't too bad just make sure your ins. com. covers it...Mine doesnt' cover Resin and I know alot of dentist now are only using the resin and not Amalagum(silver)

Personally I won't be replacing any of my silver fillings unless they fall apart. In all honesty my two or three (can't recall) that I do have are 20 years old and they have outlasted every single other of my fillings that I have. I only replace them if they break, otherwise I keep them in. And truthfully with the longevity of the silver, I wish I could get them in all my current fillings. I had bad enamel on my teeth so I had cavaties when teeth came in right away so I have a ton of them too.

Yes, at the rate of 2/year. I grew up in the dark ages, before flouride and have an "active decay rate". Good dental hygiene; bad teeth. I'm now getting cavities under the loosening fillings. Not fun.

Do it and save yourself some pain & decay down the road.

I got 2 fillings when I was 14 years old. (I'm 52 years old now so those fillings are 28 years old. ) They are still going strong. In fact, none of my dentists have even suggested that they should be replaced. I wouldn't replace them until they got loose or were chipping.

Yep, I'm getting 3 of mine replaced next Friday. They are not in good shape (although my teeth are), so he wants to replace them. Each are starting to show small holes in the fillings.

Yes, I had my one and only filling replaced last year. My Dentist put in a tooth colored filling and now I have no idea where it is, the color match is that good.

One thing I did experience was some sensitivity in that tooth for a few months. Some people do have that problem. It wasn't terrible and now there is no problem at all.

I have to get 2 done next week. I only have 4 fillings and they've all been there for a really long time. They said 2 of them were starting to come apart so they need fixed.

i need to have one of mine replaced, but i just don't have the money to do it right now (it was going to be $800!)

Yes, DH and I had all ours replaced with white fillings. We love them! Most dentist don't use those silver fillings anymore, I think they are going to become extinct pretty soon. White ones are so much more attractive! Get white!

caititycaity- $800 for a filling is really expensive...why so much. I had 3 replaced with white and they were in the $200-$300 range. Same with DH's ...they are the newest white material, my dentist says it's really strong stuff (I can find out what it is if you'd like to know).

Just made an appointment to have 2 replaced. Dentist said they needed to be done. I'm not looking forward to it though.

I just had one replaced a couple of months ago. The tooth was actually starting to crack around the filling, so it was time to do some preventive work. The whole experience was not unpleasant as I finally asked the doctor if I could have nitrous during the procedure instead of a local. As a person who hates trips to the dentist, I think that I've found a new incentive to go. :)

I have a wonderful dentist and I trust his judgement when it comes to matters of the tooth.

Towncrier, you post made me laugh. I choose nitrous, a local and a 1/2 a xanax. I suppose I will be replacing as needed.
