I was sitting here thinking about Proms and special occasions... well.. that weren't all that special !! and it brought to mind my wedding day with DH #1.
I have to laugh at it everytime I think about it. It took place in NY on May 31st... not normally a 99+ degree day in NY BUT it was that day. Wool tuxs, victorian long sleeved gown... air you could cut a knife with and gray!
The limo pulls up BLUE not black... ok.. I can deal with that.Get to the church and I sat in the limo for about 40 min... until ex BIL came out and said..ahemm are you getting married today..///we all kinda waiting. ok I'll be right there.I was having flash backs from 6 months before when in the same church I buried my Mom out of.
Made it through the ceremony... get outside and it looks like it was going to pour.
Made it to the reception... when the heavens opened up! We were in a mansion on Long Island Sound...everyone got soaked coming in. Well.. I figured whew.. we beat that. The limo driver takes off with my flowers in the car.So I had nothing to throw!
ok.. they announce us as husband and wife... we come in to giant thunder and lightning.. had our 1st dance .. my SIL comes up to me and said... hey wouldn't it be funny if the lights go out!!!!NOOO I said! I swear 3 minutes later KABOOM....... out go the lights, the air condioning, the band, the meal.......NO they never came back on! The band couldn't play so one lowly sax guy tried to keep the music going!!! My cake melted (Italian whipped cream frosting) there were no windows to open just 2 emergency doors and it was teaming out! Hotter than hell in the room, people couldn't eat because the kitchen couldn't cut the meat.. finally did it by hand... what a mess. So my wedding was REAl fun. no lights, no food, no dancing, sweating like pigs, and watching the layers of my cake sllliide to the floor!
One of the men I worked with came up to me and had to laugh. When I was picking a date for the wedding he made me promise that I'd check with him first. He approved of the 31st of May. His reasoning was you couldn't have a snow storm or bad weather and he figured nothing could happen on that day(I have a history of bad luck!!) Well... he barely could talk... he laughed so hard..ONLY YOU he said... THIS could ONLY happen to you!
Well I told him... It's a wedding you'll never forget!

Well my wedding did not have so many things go wrong but at the time they were happening to me they were NOT fun!

My maid of honor could not attend the rehersal because her little sister's HS graduation was scheduled for the same day in a town 3 hours away from where the wedding was. When she accepted to be my maid of honor we thought the graduation was the following weekend.

My soloist also missed the rehearsal because her car broke down on the way to the wedding.

One of my bridesmaids missed her plane and we got her to the dress place for a final fitting about 2 minutes before they were to close.

My MIL took over the wedding rehearsal and renewed her vows with FIL. I would not have minded if she had discussed it with me first but NO she just up and does it without anyone else knowing about it! Apparently the few people she told that evening about her plans were also specifically instructed not to tell me!

About two hours before the wedding I was checking on final arrangements in the chapel when I went to straighten the unity candles. I snapped my husband's candle in two! I was pretty upset and it seemed like a really bad sign. My father took a cigarette lighter and 'welded' the candle back together. I had a friend tell DH to be VERY CAREFUL with his candle. I just had this mental picture of the candle breaking off and lighting the alter on fire during the ceremony. DH got the message and he was pretty darn careful during the ceremony. Of course after the ceremony we forgot to appoint someone to extinguish the candles and by the time we forgot they were puddles of wax.

How I ever got through my wedding I dont know. It was a comedy of errors. Dad and I came down the aisle totally out of step with my flowers going all over the place I was shaking so hard...it was a football field long aisle.... We get to the front and my dads voice comes out like Mickey Mouse when he had to say Her mother and I do. I go to walk up the stairs to the alter, get caught in my gown, trip and say OH **** right in front of the minister which of course cracks up the entire wedding party. Thankfully the congregation didnt hear it. The minister is telling me DONT RUN DONT run which is making me laugh even harder. We go to kneel on the bench and dh is in such pain with his knee that the whole thing is shaking uncontrollably. We go to light the unity candles and the wax comes pouring down onto my thumb. Dh very nearly married himself because the minster forgot my name and said HIS twice! I hear crying in the background and thinking its my mother I tear up. Found out later it was DAD! Stand there listening to our wedding song saying what the heck are they playing?? It sounded nothing like what we requested.

We get to the reception and realize dh has put my rings on the wrong hand. As we are walking to the reception hall my heel gets caught in one of the wooden boards and I pitch forward. Quick thinking dh grabs me to keep me from falling but grabs my veil whipping my head back. We were so upset with my BIL over something that we ended up riding back to our apartment after the reception in the back of a cargo van.

Almost 20 years later we are still married!! LOL

Not really, the planning was the nightmare, the wedding itself went almost without a hitch.

Planning a wedding in 10 days is rough.

The only thing that I can think of it that my cousins wedding was in August, it was outside and really hot, the best man-the grooms brother, fainted in the middle of the wedding.:p

Well our wedding ceremony went on without a hitch, but at our reception my uncle scratched his throat on one of the fake silver leaves on our cake, and of course my mother being the nurse that she is took him to the hospital, so I never got to say goodbye to her before my honeymoon.

Our wedding date changed 3 times....that was the only "disaster" for us. 11 years later MAY 22 is one of my FAVORITE dates. :D We were married in 1991 of course. :smooth:

These stories are too funny.

We had such a small wedding other than forgetting the camera and DH's cousin getting a speeding ticket and arriving late, nothing bad happened.

I have a horror wedding from a friend I used to work with though. She was a nurse also and marrying a doctor. Most of the families and wedding party were in medical field.
Well, her uncle had chest pain and passed out, actually his heart stopped so bride and groom begin CPR. Sometimes during this there is vomiting and of course, all over her dress. Unfortunately, even with all that help the uncle did not survive so the whole reception was pretty much ruined and so was the dress. I felt so awful when she told us that story.

She still seemed up beat about being married so that was good. ;)

May 22 is my anniversary too....we were married in 1987...it's also DH's birthday! We were married on his 22nd brthday.

DH and I had planned our WDW Wedding a year in advance. We were to be married on the Balcony at Wilderness Lodge. One of my close friends who works for a major airlines had given us "Buddy Passes" for the 5 of us (Dh, myself, DS, DS, and DD) to fly to Orlando on Wednesday Nov. 12th. The wedding was planned for Friday the 14th. I purposely waited till Friday because I ddn't want to be married on the "13th"! The rest of our family was flying in Wednesday afternoon also.
In the meantime, DH was trying to finish up a huge project, it was a church roof. As it turned out, there were problems on this job, because the AC units had been set before the roofers had ever set foot on the job. They had to bring a crane into town to lift these units up one by one so the roofers could curb them properly. DH came home and said to me, "Guess what day the crane is coming into town??" I said "When???" He said Wednesday, I won't be able to leave with all of you, I'll have to fly down on Thursday. Well, the morning the kids and I left for the airport we had a snowstorm in Pittsburgh. We got to the airport and we all were able to get on that flight, all 4 of us without a hitch and arrived in Orlando well before noon. The rest of our family arrived a little bit later.
Thursday morning DH was to arrive at the airport by 7:00 a.m. to try to get on the earliest flights.(Remember we're flying standby) I had a book of the flights given to me by my friend at the airlines and I knew all the flights and times. I had told him, If you DON'T get on the flight, then call me. If you don't call, I'll assume you got on the flight and we'll pick you up at the Orlando airport at the appropriate time. WELL, I sat in my room at the WL ALL DAY long. It was pouring outside so I didn't feel so bad. By 5:00, I was starting to panic! The kids and I had all gotten on the previous day without a problem, he was only 1 person and he couldn't get on a flight to save his life. My girlfriend and I got on the phone and started checking the flights to see if they were all full. It wasn't looking good. She thinks the snowstorm the previous day was the cause of this. The Wednesday morning flights were pretty empty. He called us around 6:00 and said Ï WILL be on the next flight, I'm tired of sitting in this airport, I bought a first class ticket (the only thing available) and I'll see you in Orlando. My BIL had been kidding me all day that he was going to have to "Stand In" for DH during the ceremony. I was so happy to see him get off that plane! By the way, it was STILL raining!!
The next morning (friday) was so hectic, we had to get up and go get our license before we did anything, but it was a beautiful Sunny Day and the ceremony was gorgeous!!
