How do you treat it?!?!?

I am thinking about trying Proactiv, but I have extremely sensitive skin.

HELP!

Susan

I tried it and it did not cure it. I think you can get help at a Day Spa for it. I haven't tried it out yet.

I know you are supposed to avoid alcohol, caffeine, stress and spices so I haven't taken it as serious as I should (curing it).

I hope others have some good advice as I would be interested to hear it too.

So far the only thing that has worked for me is the prolonged course of low dose antibiotics.

Doctor says I can take them as long as I need to and so far, it continues to work. I have small flare-ups every now and then (in one right now in fact LOL) but I just treat it with a few extra doses of the antibiotic and it subsides.

The remaining redness is a problem though. People assume I'm embarrassed or blushing but I'm not.

Good luck finding a treatment that works for you. :)

I use Metrogel (which is a prescription topical gel) twice a day. I used to take Minocycline, but I have a very mild case and was able to stop the antibiotic.
I was diagnosed with this many years ago, and have been able to take note of what triggers it for me (wine and cold weather, specifically wind) and I try to avoid the triggers.

I haven't been diagnosed with it although when having a facial, the esthitician (sp?) said I might have it. She gave me some samples of an expensive specialty product for rosacea, but she also said that Cetaphil was good for it.

She said the thing to do was to be gentle and not use extreme temperatures on your skin.

I've had lots of problems with flare ups lately which I'm blaming on menapause!

The low dose antibiotic worked for me a year ago but while starting it up again a few weeks ago I developed a kidney infection tho I highly doubt it's from the meds but while I'm treating that, I stopped taking the face med.

I also use Metrogel but for me it hasn't been very successful.:o

My mom has it. She's been taking antibiotics for years to keep it under control. She still gets some redness, but it's much better when she stays on the meds.

Hers flares up when she gets hot flashes. And she's already gone through menopause. Does it ever end?;)

I have it too, for a long time. I am also having hot flashes and it is really getting worse.

I have very sensitive skin and have so much trouble finding products that work. Post if anyone comes up with something new.

I find if I get hot and perspiry it gets much worse. I have to stay out of the sun. I don't drink and avoid spicey foods. My derm even says to avoid hot baths and hot beverages. I do find anytime I have hot food, temp wise, it gives me the flush.

I am tired of it and have just given up for a while finding anything to treat it. I need to find a new doctor too since we moved.

DH has it on his nose. If it gets out of control, it looks like WC Fields. He does Metrogel and takes Tetracycline when he has a flair up. It gets bad when he is stressed.

Which antibiotics have you guys heard of for rosacea? Is there just Tetracycline and the one I'm taking Doxycycline or is there a different kind I could try?

I took minocycline (Minocin) for a while, it really cleared up some acne I was having. Does this medicine also help with the redness?

I use Noritate cream, I can't tell if it works or not.

I don't have the acne anymore, but the redness is bad, it's all the time, regardless of triggers. It will be much worse during the summer.

Also, my skin is often irritated. Anyone else have this problem?

I have had it for about 5 years now...and I am in my 30's. I have had some success with Metrocream (same as gel, but cream form). I've had less success with antibiotics. I just hate taking them and did not see that big of difference. My doctor has said that there is no cure, just treatment for symtoms. Mine seems better during summer. Also, facials do seem to help minimize. Just be sure they know you have it. Thank God for concealer and foundation.

Good luck!

Pam

my mom uses an antibiotic cream that works well for her. i haven't found anything that gets rid of the redness for me (other than makeup, LOL) so i just live with it.
