I just got back from my Lasik consult and Dr Lasonde says my corneas are thin and too thin for Lasik but suggested PRK instead..Has anyone had this done>>> How is the pain after the procedure....and was it hard to wait a week between having both eyes done?? I am really disappointed I can;t get the new CustomVue Lasik done like I had hoped....:(

I had this done a few years ago. Best thing I ever did!

The first thing they hand you when you walk in for the surgery was a Valium. It was painless, but I was so afraid that I would move and something would go wrong.

When the numbing drops wore off it just felt like there was sand in my eye. That went away in about 3-4 hours.

Do it , you won't regret it.

If you have any questions let me know. I'll do my best.

Thanks Michele

How long did it take your eyesight to come in>>> they said up to 3 months? and how was the week between having both eyes done? and how long till you could drive after it???
Has anyone else had the PRK procedure done???

My husband had this procedure done in Dec. He had it done on a Fri...he did not get out of his bed for 3 days, and really couldn't go to work until Wed. He was in a lot of pain. BUT he loves the outcome, and would do it again in a heart beat..if fact he need one eye adjusted soon. DH works a lot on the computer, and found this very difficult for 2-3 weeks. I would also mention that I had to drive him to work for a week at least, so I would make back up transportation plans. He was totally blind w/o glasses before the surgery, and also has the thin corneas, so the surgery was a win. I think the loss of the glasses has given him a little more confidence too. Go for it, but have help, and be real about recovery. And get a great looking pair of sunglasses:smooth:

Yikes that doesn;t sound good.......I have to drive my daughter to school everyday.....I guess I will stick with contacts for now:(

I had it done 9 years ago. Wonderful!!! It felt like sand in your eyes for a few days, but it was tolerable. Sight was within one day for me! It was miraculous. I would do it again in an instant!!

Don't let canwegosoon's experience scare you. I really think her DH case was an exception.

did you have the PRK???

Pardon me.......my bad! I looked this up as I didn't know there was a "different" RK, so to speak! :D No, I had the straight RK done, where cuts are made into the cornea. So, maybe canwegosoon's DH experience is common! :)

I had to wait a month between surgeries. Office was mainly doing LASIK by then and only did the PRK once a month.

Each time I was up and doing normal things by that night.

I drove the next day each time. After the first one I had to use my glasses with one lens popped out. You can't wear contacts I think 2 weeks before because they flatten your corneas. They have to be in their natural shape for this to work.

I went back for a check-up 2 weeks after the 2nd surgery and I had 20/20 vision.

Ok...maybe my husband was over reacting:o I was suprised that his DR did not tell him to take off from work...so perhaps he was more of an exception...but outside of the first few days he has never complained, and has encouraged others to do the same surgery. His Dr did both eyes at once, and as I said before...his eyes were really bad. I don't need it, but if I did, I would probably get it done.:smooth:
