Hello!!!! I am a new poster. My husband and I are staying at Port Orleans Riverside 9/24-10/1. I was wondering if anyone has any recent pictures of the rooms, grounds or any other info good or bad. Do you have any pictures of what the view might be if it is a standard view? Thanks!

I have some pics on my computer that I took when I stayed there in Feb and I am staying there again tomoorw thru Fri.! I can email them to you if youd like. Just give me youe email addy and I will be glad to!

I dont know how to do that (I'm new) I tried to post my email but it wouldn't let me...my email is singjenn I have aol. Thanks!

If you haven't already done it, I highly suggest going to www.allearsnet.com and checking out the resort photos. Each WDW resort will have a slideshow with tons of picture and info. If you booked a standard view you will probably be looking at a parking lot or walkway area. Not a bad deal at all, POR is absolutely beautiful. The room we had in the AB section had been recently refurbished and was beautiful with a really nice bathroom area. Don't know if the Mansions section has also been rennovated lately, maybe somebody else can answer that. It is a large, spread out resort but we enjoyed the walk from our outlying building to the main area. It was absolutely no chore but we enjoy outdoor walks. If you are worried about that you can always request a preferred location room for an extra fee each night. It took maybe 5-7 minutes and that was with two pokey kids! We absolutely loved our stay at this resort, hope you do too!

We leave in 2 days and I still have a few questions. We are staying our first night at POR then moving to the Poly. When I looked at the map for POR, it looks very spread out. Is their transportation to your room or do you have walk all the way dragging the luggage. The reason I ask is that my DH has a broken arm, so it leaves me to get all the luggage for all 5 of us. Yikes!!!

If you use Disney's Magical Express, you don't have to lug your suitcases, they take them to the room for you. If you are not using ME, you can still have a bell boy bring your bags to your room - just remember to tip them, I think a dollar per bag is standard.

We stayed at POR a month ago and LOVED it!!!!! The grounds are so lovely, pools are terrific, transportation is fast, etc. Make sure to do the boat ride to Downtown Disney. It takes a long time, but it's worth it...very romantic. We stayed in Alligator Bayou Building 14 and it was a terrific location, very close to the lobby building/gift shop/food court. The room looked like it had recently been renovated.

Thanks SDFgirl. We are using ME, just not sure how it all works. We will arrive around noon, so just in case we cannot get in our room right away, we are taking swimming suits in our carry-on bags so we can hit the pool and nap first. We did not request a specific building when we booked but maybe I can request it when we check in. We need one of the trundle bed rooms. Are they located in Alligator Bayou?

well... as you can tell from my sig... we love riverside. as a matter of fact, i recently posted a message to someone about this resort, so i am just going to copy my message from there to here...

It has a relaxing type of theme. A southern new orleans, "Mark Twain/Davie Crockett" feel to it.

Connected to building with check in and the gift shop is a bar, where there is a guy that is there at night during the week where he sings and plays on an animated type piano (it lifts off of the ground and sways from side to side), and he gets the audience involved in his act. :rolleyes1 It is really hysterical to watch. When you get there, if ask the cast members at check in what times that he is there, so you may want to catch it.

Connected to the bar is Boatwright's Dining hall. I haven't eaten there, but have heard from some other dis'er's that it is good. Connected to that is a food court, where you can get just about anything there. When we come back from the parks, and don't feel like going to a "restaurant" and waiting to be seated, etc., this is where we go. I recommend buying the unlimited refillable mugs that they sell here, they are about $12 or so (can't remember what we spent). They are worth it. If there are coffee drinkers, it is worth it. August can get chilly at night there, they have this really good hot chocolate there, that my husband can't get enough of. :teeth:

Just outside of the building in view from the food court is part of the river, where you can rent paddle boats, bicycles, etc. or if you would like to go to downtown disney, you can take the ferry boat there. it is very convient, and at night, very peaceful.

As far as rooms go... it depends on what you are looking for... we've stayed in both section types.

convience? Try to ask for building 14, being that you guys can be considered a "Magical Gatherings" group, they may automatically place you there. In order for them to know that you are Magical Gatherings, you need to be booked that way by placing the reservations for all 14 of you at once, not separately. Building 14 is right next to everything. Building 18 is also right next to everything, it is on the other side of 14. But it is surrounded by other buildings in a way that no matter where you are placed in that building, you will not get a room with a parking lot view. Only a garden view or a water view. These buildings are in the Aligator Bayou section of the resort. The rooms are the same, just decorated differently. And rooms in this section automatically come with a trundle bed (a roll out bed).

if you would like something with a more "romantic" touch to it, then ask for a building in the Mansion Manors, or the Magnolia Bend section. These look more like colonial mansions on the outside, with a different decor on the inside. They are on the other side of the river. Building 90, would be the closest to the food court etc. Also, rooms here do not come with a trundle bed. You can ask for one if you wish, but it is extra. (don't know why?? :confused3 )

If you want specific building requests, you need to ask to put it on your reservation as a side note, then call the resort about 3-4 days before your trip. This is when they begin filling up the rooms in advance. They try to place the large parties first, then the smaller ones.

Everynight at 7pm there is a campfire at a site behind the main pool with the slide, where they roast marshmellows and smores, and sing songs. Someone once told me that depending on the ages of the children that end up having to some to the fire on each particular night, they'll tell ghost stories too, unless there are objections. last time that i was therer they weren't doing this... someone at the front desk told me that they usually do this during peak seasons... since that should be around summer... ask about it when you check in.

I don't know if anyone in your group are into fishing, but there is a "catch and throw" fishing area. Where you can rent rods and bait and fish, or learn to fish.

There are horse carriage rides there as well. Not sure how far they will take you, but they depart from the area where you can rent paddle boats.

The pools there are nice. There are "quiet" pools, that are placed all around the resort, so the "main" pool called "ol' man island" doesn't get too packed. These pools do not have life guards, but the main one does. At the main one, there is a slide, a hot tub, and a kiddy pool for the little ones, like my godson. There is also a bar near the main one too.

Here is a great site that I have found useful for looking at some disney resorts. The phone number for the resort is listed on here too. They have pictures of almost every area around the resort, and images of the resort map, menus with prices from the food court, boatwrights, the bar, etc. so you have an idea of how much things cost, or get an idea of what they serve there...http://www.wdisneyw.co.uk/dxl.html

Sorry this is sooo long, but you got me started on talking about our second home. if there are any more questions, please feel free to ask...

good luck, and have fun!

you can request it now if you want... just call the central reservation office and tell them that you would like it noted on your request.

you can request a trundle bed in any room. but in the aligator bayou section, the trundle beds are already in the room under one of the beds.

as far as which building you want to stay in, check out the resort map...
there is one here on this link: http://www.wdisneyw.co.uk/resorts/dxl.html

good luck!!

Thanks for all of the pictures and descriptions JenJen, and thanks to the others for the links and maps.

My burning question of the moment is can you actually get a trundle bed in the Mansions section? Everything I've read up to this point is that all of the trundle beds are in the AB section. I much prefer the themeing of the Mansions area, but I really would prefer a room with a trundle so my 5-year old can have his own bed.

Can anyone confirm that they've been in a Magnolia Terrace / Mansions room with a trundle bed? If so, do you have pictures? Did you have to request it, or was it already there? Was there an extra charge for it?

This is a big deal for me. As of today, I have reservations for the same days for both POR and the Swan. I'm trying to decide which one to cancel and this issue could tip the balance towards POR!

I was told that you can get a rollaway bed for the Mansions section, but you will have to pay $15 a day for it. For some reason they don't tell you this unless you ask when you are checking in. I don't think CRO knows about it but just ask when you check in.

I'm pretty sure the trundles are in the AB section only. I have read on here that people have gotten a roll away bed or something like that in the Mansions but I don't know for sure and I don't know if that costs extra. We had 5 people in our group so the AB section was our only option due to the trundles. That's ok because we LOVE POR and the AB section is wonderful!

yes, you can get a trundle in the mansions rooms, but they usually charge for it... don't know why? :confused3 it is free in one room but not in another. the AB rooms automatically come with one already in the room, tucked under one of the beds. if you are in one of the mansion buildings, you have to request for it when you get there. actually you can note it on your reservation as well. but i think that if you ask them about it when you get to the resort, there could be a possibility that it could be waived.

otherwise, you could bring a blow up bed if they do charge and don't want to pay for it??

good luck!

I called this afternoon and had them add the request to our reservation. I asked to be placed in the Mansions if there was availability and for Magnolia Terrace specifically. I've never been there so I don't know any thing special about Magnoila Terrace, but I based my request on its proximity to a bridge to the pool island and main building.

I also asked to make sure we got a trundle bed. The CM didn't bring up that those two requests would not be compatible, so maybe it is a possibilty. He did not mention an extra charge. When I asked for the trundle bed, the CM said that we probably would automatically be given a trundle bed because we have 5 people in our party. I didn't realize that they were considering my DD-1.5 a true 5th person.

If I do get placed in AB, I will still be totally happy. It looks like a great place and I'm starting to get exited.
