Anyone have lost luggage? What to do about tiny coverage in documents?

I noticed in reading the fine print in the cruise documents that coverage for lost luggage is extremely limited. In fact, the limit was much less than my luggage even cost. I called both my homeowners insurance company and the AmEx Platinum Card (I had paid with that) to find out if they covered me for the difference if my luggage was stolen. (Really nice luggage I didn't want to lose, and I knew there were long stretches of time during which the luggage wouldn't be under my control or even under Disney's).

Bottom line: No extra coverage for simply lost luggage. I would be covered for stolen luggage, but would need to supply proof of theft (like a witness seeing someone take it, and a police report).

Disney says in the documents you can declare a higher value and pay an extra fee to get more insurance. In the end I decided to risk it and was fine. But I'm curious -- has anyone had a problem with lost or stolen luggage, and what was your experience in trying to collect from Disney?
