I am thinking of purchasing a home inteercom system. I am tired of yelling across the house for my kids. I think my voice will thank me for it! I was looking for suggestions from any of you that may have one?

I have one that came with the house. It has 3 zones - one button calls my daughter in her bedroom and in the playroom next to her room, another button calls my second daughter in her bedroom and a small playroom next to her room, and the third button calls my bedroom downstairs. I have the main call box in the kitchen. A second call box is in my bedroom. The girls can talk to me from upstairs without having to get up and push a button, which they like - I have to be downstairs and push a button to talk to them.

I can also just hold the button in and listen to them upstairs, without them knowing I am doing it. Very sneaky but occasionally useful!!! (I only use this to find out if they are upstairs by the sound of the TV - otherwise I'm not really that much into eavesdropping!!!!)

i do not have one. but i think they are outdated. and also what gives me the creeps about them is from the episode of fresh prince will and carlton are channel surfing and run into a conversation they did not want to hear.

I call my son's cell phone if he's in his bedroom and I either don't feel like yelling or getting up. ;)

The IL's have one in their house, but MIL said she's hated it from about the 2nd day they had it. The kids played with it, and she very rarely used it.

Yep, I've been known to do that, too!!!

OP, I have a newer system so it's by no means outdated. I find it very useful for exactly the reason you mention. It is much easier to call them on the intercom in the morning to wake up, rather than to stand at the foot of the stairs and yell!!!

My mom wanted one of these in her house. I hated it. She never used it though, she just yelled anyway.

We bought one a few years ago at Home Depot or Lowes. It was a Westinghouse. It came with one two pieces, but was expandable, so we added two more: one for our room, one for the girls' room, one for the boys' room, and one for the kitchen. It was about $160 total, but I use it all the time. I can not stand to yell, and my kids can't hear me when they are upstairs in their rooms anyway. The intercoms work great for us. I'd spend a little more and get a really good one next time though.

Yes beacuse it's a pain to run out to the pool house and/or tennis courts

We have a wireless system - I can't remember the brand, but I just saw it tonight in the Hammacher Schlemmer catalog.

We have four units - one on the second floor (bedrooms), one in the kitchen, one in the study and one in our detached workshop garage.

I love it! Nothing beats hitting the button and calling DH for dinner instead of slogging out into the weather across the yard to the workshop!

It works on batteries or AC power (buy cords if you want), but I can tell you the batteries in each unit last an entire year.

Wireless in nice because you can take it with you if you move out of the house.

We have one. The kids all say that I don't know how to use it. Probably because the first one said it, now they all do. :sad2: They don't talk back when I attempt to talk to them because of this.

When I call one, they just come. It would be a lot easier if they'd just give me a sec to switch buttons, but they don't.

In any event, they come when they're called and I don't have to go somewhere and open a door and scream. :) I give it a thumbs up! :thumbsup2

I do the same thing..they answer the phone! kids aren't going to answer you because it's over the intercom. I've found they have very selective hearing.;)

My parents had an intercom in the last condo they lived in. The system cost them some two thousand dollars....and my mom still screamed upstairs to my sister...my dad often wondered why they had the intercom. It became a glorified radio.

We also use our intercom phones. Our house is a 4 level home and yelling to the kids who have TV and music on in their rooms is just not great option. We have one on each floor and they are simple to use...even our 6 year old uses them!

My parents do...it comes in handy for my mom to talk to my dad when he's downstairs in his office (or vice versa) without screaming down the steps. They also have one in the barn so whoever's up there can communicate with whoever's in the house without having to walk all the way back down.

That sounds like just what I am looking for. Do you know who makes it?

This would not be for holding conversations, but rather, asking them to come to the kitchen/laundry/etc etc...and as someone else pointed out the pool and or tennis courts :thumbsup2

No cell service here brand new subdivision...but even if that were not the case not so sure getting a cell for each of my 4 kids would be the wisest thing at this point in time :)

Hmm any idea why she hates it? Does she still have kids at home? I just get so tired of yelling...
Whatever I get, will more then likely be a wireless system, if I can find a good recommendation on one.
