Anyone have home intercom?

Yep, I've been known to do that, too!!!

OP, I have a newer system so it's by no means outdated. I find it very useful for exactly the reason you mention. It is much easier to call them on the intercom in the morning to wake up, rather than to stand at the foot of the stairs and yell!!!
You are making me jealous! Please who makes yours! LOL It sounds like, since it came with your home that is is built in? I still would like to know who the manufacturer is, as well as a model number if you can see it printed on the unit?

We bought one a few years ago at Home Depot or Lowes. It was a Westinghouse. It came with one two pieces, but was expandable, so we added two more: one for our room, one for the girls' room, one for the boys' room, and one for the kitchen. It was about $160 total, but I use it all the time. I can not stand to yell, and my kids can't hear me when they are upstairs in their rooms anyway. The intercoms work great for us. I'd spend a little more and get a really good one next time though.
That sounds like exactly what I am looking for! I will check out the home stores around here. I would love to know a model number?

Our phones are similar to this set:

http://www.uniden.com/products/productdetail.cfm?product=TRU9380-4

And they have built-in intercoms. They also have room monitors -- great for when DD's asthma is bothering her. I just turn on the monitor if she's coughing a lot!
Hmm. I never htought about it through the phones. Our current set has an intercom function, but it doesn't work quite the way I would like. If try to use th intercom option on the current phone, all it does is ring the base, someone would have to actually answer it in order to get "my message" across. I want an intercom system, where instead of yelling "Dinners ready" etc etc I could just press the magic button, say in a normal tone " dinners ready" and children come to the table nicely dressed and all smiles, willing to tell me all about the wonderful day the had, and offer to clear the table and wash dishes! ! Ok OK I know that last bit is asking a bit much, but a girl can dream! ;)

Yes beacuse it's a pain to run out to the pool house and/or tennis courts
Pshaw, I just feel badly for the butler/maid havign to do all the carrying on..anything to make the life of the help more at ease :upsidedow

We have a wireless system - I can't remember the brand, but I just saw it tonight in the Hammacher Schlemmer catalog.

We have four units - one on the second floor (bedrooms), one in the kitchen, one in the study and one in our detached workshop garage.

I love it! Nothing beats hitting the button and calling DH for dinner instead of slogging out into the weather across the yard to the workshop!

It works on batteries or AC power (buy cords if you want), but I can tell you the batteries in each unit last an entire year.

Wireless in nice because you can take it with you if you move out of the house.

Jane, if you think about it, I would love to know the maker and model number of the unit you have...It sounds like you are a happy customer?
