Do you HAVE to get the quarter round to go near the baseboard?

We don't particularly care for them. Can you have the floor installed with the necessary gap and then by new baseboards to cover that gap?

Thanks in advance. :sunny:

Heck no--you don't need the quarter round. I agree that it is not very attractive. We have installed floating floors in 4 rooms and every time we've just removed the existing baseboards, put in the new floor, and then put new baseboard on. No problems.

Quarter round is used to hide the gap between the floor and molding. If you like the look without it, then skip it. We don't have quarter round.

ETA: It is also used to cut down drafts. When the floor in not installed and the baseboard is removed, run a bread of caulk alone the joint of the outside walls and the floor.

You don't have to use quarter round. We've done both, and to be honest I didn't mind the quarter round. We just painted it white like the baseboard and it looked really nice.

We don't have a quarter round, either. DH is a carpenter and he hates the look of them. We do get a gap certain times of the year with the swelling and contracting of the house and floor.
