Anyone have experience with sinus infections?

I was diagnosed with a sinus infection in early February. Three doctors, three courses of medication, two CAT scans, 1 X-Ray, 1 MRI, and five months later I sill have it. At the end of July I get to stay overnight in the hospital and get my sinuses suctioned out. They will culture what they get out to rty to figure out exactly what is causing the constant congestion.

Oh that was me in 99 - spent 6 months trying to get well. I had the surgery to clean everything out and it was a piece of cake. I didn't even get so much as a cold for almost 5 years. i"ve never had another sinus infection.

The surgery was outpatient and when I came home from the hospital I didn't even feel like going to bed - I stayed up until bedtime. I'd heard stories about how painful sinus surgery is and I never even took the pain pills. And mine was fairly extensive - they reduced the turbinates and opened the "windows" besides scraping everything out. It helps to have a terrific surgeon.

I used to get them a lot due to allergies. The allegra seems to help. If I am working outside, I get them occasionally. I take advil now, it is the only thing that seems to work once you already have one!

Good luck, feel better!

Another chronic sinus infection sufferer here :(.

I usually take the antibiotic Levaquin. I'm on a 10 day dose right now. My main problem is from the ear ache it causes. I can stand the sinus headache, stuffiness and dizziness, but the earache is unbearable. The tube in my left ear won't drain and always becomes infected.

As for the pain, I take 2 Sudafed (sometimes Allegra-D) and 800 mg of Motrin and it still hurts :(.

I really feel for those of you who have to deal with these things on the regular basis. I have a call in to my dr. because I just can't deal with this earache. The secretary did tell me that she doesn't think he'll do anything more for me though, since I've only been on antibiotics for two days. We'll see.

Just got the call back and he wants me to give it another day. I felt better this morning but as the day is progressing, it's getting worse :( . I'm off to go get me some heavy duty meds.

I'm sorry there is nothing they can do for you.

It really will get better :). I'm on day 4 of my antibiotic and today was the first day the ear pain wasn't horribly intense.

Hope you feel better soon :).

Yes, with a sinus infection a Doctor usually likes to wait at least 3 days and usually 5 before prescribing something stronger. It really does take that long on an antibiotic to feel better with a sinus infection. Try taking Sudafed, it will open you up a little and relieve some of the pressure. Also, Advil is a wonder drug fo rme when I have a Sinus Infection. I take two Advil and two Sudafed every 4 hours, it works like a charm until the antibiotic kicks in, usually in 4 days. Also, try not to do much, that could be why you're feeling worse now then you did when you woke up.

All man i know how feel. I have a sinus infection and is on antibotics for 10 days myself.

I hope get well soon.

My sinus pressure turns into infection if I am not aggressive with my fluid intake.

I finally went to the dr this afternoon, and was diagnosed with a sinus infection. Dr prescribed Amoxicillin 875 mb 2x per day for 20 days. She said most true sinus infections do not completely clear up in a normal 5-10 day cycle of antibiotics.

She also told me to do nasal sniffs!!! Never had heard of this until today. Mix 1/4 teaspoon table salt with 8 ounces of lukewarm water. Pour a small amount of the solution into your cupped palm. Gently sniff this mixture into your nose. Repeat two/three times. Then gently blow your nose. May repeat this proceedure whenever needed. The purpose of this proceedure is to soften dry mucous membranes, and provide moisture to your respiratory tract.
I asked is saline drops would produce the same outcome, and was told that this works better. I have only done this once this evening, and it burnt like fire. It did help loosen everything up.
Hope you get to feeling better!
