I have not been able to run lately due to this.I am bummed and the weight creeps on if you can't get out there and move.

Does this eventually go away if I don't do too much? I am getting very discouraged not being able to do what I usually do.

Need alternatives other than surgery.Ibuprofen and stretching help but I want it gone.

Any advice????????

First off no going barefoot. I leave crocs by the bed & put them on right away as far as slippers go they are the only choice I could find with any support. And I try to stretch alittle before getting up even at work. Freeze a water bottle & roll it under your foot it helps alot. Try not to wear the same pair of shoes two days in a row. I had to buy all new shoes with better support.

Kae thanks for the reply- no barefoot!!!!!!!!! Oh no, I live for being barefoot this time of year.I actually feel better barefoot but I can see the reasoning.

I will give the water bottle a try.

How long did it take to go away?

I suffered with PF in both feet, One lasted about 10 months and that was mainly because the one Podiatrist treated by putting me in a boot. I had to go to PT for it. Lots of stretching, I keep a tennis ball by the bed so I roll it cross wise right in that area with some pressure to stretch the facia before taking that first step. Can also use a golf ball. Icing and Advil. Constantly stretching!! NO BAREFEET!!! I used Birkenstocks for a long time when I couldn't or didn't want to wear sneakers. I got orthotics for my shoes with good arch support. Took about 6 month for the other foot. Try placing a hand towel on the floor (tile or wood) place your foot at one end and then try to grab the towel with your toes and pull it, trying to gather it under your foot. (hoping that makes sense). You must keep at it and also it does get worse the more you weigh, so if you can try to walk a bit, swim or ride a bike that would be helpful. I still get a twinge now and then and just do more stretching, I pretty much use the tennis ball every morning.

Hoping this helps,

Linda...google TP Massage Ball
One of the common causes of PF is actually tight calves. You need to stretch those good, and deep into them, not just stretch the bottoms of your feet.
Trust me...have been through it and it took more calf work than foot work to get it cleared.

I've had a couple of bouts with this. Used to get it from walking on supermarket cement floors because of my line of work. Takes months to ease up and the best advice is....shoes...you have to not go barefoot, not wear flat flip flops, not wear bobo's (those flat tennis shoe type sneakers we used to many years ago call them bobo's) and stretch out those muscles before you get out of bed. I relax and flex my feet while I'm in bed. Then once you have it under control, as another poster said, you have to switch out your shoes don't wear the same ones all the time. Believe it or not I found a great pair of shoes at KMart...they are Thom McCans brown slip ons and they have worked great for me, look great with jeans. I now buy them all the time during the bogo events. I also have an insert from Dr. Scholls that I put in shoes I'm not sure will work it is especially for "PF". My mother in law also had problems with it she gets injections for it.....ouch.:scared1:..I don't do that I just be careful with the shoes I wear and I was just in Disney for 2 weeks walking everywhere and back again (that darn fast pass had us walking forever, first to run and get the ticket then to back track to use it) no problem with my feet at all....now the norwalk virus that was another issue and post, lol. Good luck with your "PF"

I have them in both feet, more severe in my left foot. I have orthotics for my shoes but even after I got them I was still in pain in my left foot. My doctor was saying surgery was my only option which i didn't want.

I found a foot brace that I wear when I'm sleeping. Took awhile to get used to sleeping with it but it worked wonders!! I am pain free at this point. The best $60 I've ever spent.. you can try the company "foot smart" .. that is where I bought it...

Hope that helps.

Thanks for that tip on calves. I had not thought of that.

As an aside, I am increasingly coming to realize that we need good quality footwear all the time, not just for working out. Anymore I wear Merrell's 95% of the time.
