MyDD wrote to Santa saying all she wanted was a dog, our cat died, our fish died, and because of allergies in the household, we cannot get any pets. She said a robot dog might be fun. Last year we got her Love'n Licks puppy, it was not really worth the money, but she enjoyed it.

I keep coming back to this Biscuit toy. Now, we really don't have the money for it, but I'd happily use the money given to me for a gift to buy it for her IF it is worth it. The reviews out tehre are mixed. Obviously I don't expect it to be a real dog, but will it be something she will enjoy for a while? I hate to spend so much and have it be a dust collector (we already have enough of those!)

So, if you have it, how is it? Do your kids like it? Thanks for your help...

I do not have this dog and it is cute, but I will relate what I heard at Toys R Us yesterday. The manager was taking the dog down and a woman asked him why, he told her that even though she wasn't supposed to know this he was throwing it out because it was broken. Now granted, I'm sure it gets a huge workout at a toy store, but really....it shouldn't have broken that quickly. That gave me the impression that it really wasn't worth it.

They have it on sale right now at Kohls.com if you're interested. If you use the promo codes EXTRA25GIFT and SAVETWENTY, then I think it comes out to a little less than $100.

Have you seen the way some kids beat up store displays while their parents ignore them? I don't have any experience with this product, but the big ride on dino at our Toys R Us has taken a BEATING. I saw TWO kids on it one day that had to be at least 6 or so. I wouldn't judge it on the store display. Id also try to get it as cheaply as possible if I decided, that way if she loves it, it was a GREAT bargin, if she doesn't you didn't waste that much money.

We got Jonah the Spike dino..... I really hope he LOVES it, but I did manage to get it with a % off and a free giftcard, so if he doesn't I'm not out that much

Thanks for the tips on the discount, I still just don't know, but I need to decide soon and this will help. Anyone else have experience with this? My heart breaks because I know my kids want a pet, but we just can't.

Keep the tips coming, thanks....

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your pets.
DD7 lost her guinnea pig over the summer and has mourned it, wishing for a puppy ever since. She's repeated her wish whenever anyone will listen and made so many plans for a small dog that's all hers that I feel pretty bad but, like you, a real dog isn't practical. We already did that a few years back when we got DD19 a collie and I'm just not ready to do it again yet so I was wondering the same thing.

She has a real puppy on her Christmas list and a Biscuit dog if Santa can't get the puppy to stay still in his sleigh this trip.
There are only two or three other things on her list which might not sound bad but her birthday is Christmas week too and I have no clue what to reasonably get her. I thought about another guinnea pig, they're small, soft and affectionate - and like dogs they answer to their name - but I'd love to hear good things about Biscuit too so I don't feel so pressured to get something else that needs to be fed and cleaned up after.

I can tell you that Santa brought the Butterscotch Pony last year and it hasn't gotten any use at all. DD19 and I were looking at the Biscuit boxes the other day and wondered if he came headless like the horse did. A year later it's funny but if anybody is adding Butterscotch this year be sure to open the box and assemble him first. A headless horse surprise under the tree is something that could cost you in therapists hours later... :lmao:

OP, I feel your pain. MY dd8 wants a real dog but not a reality right now. Every year, I get her the latest robot pup and they just sit in her room and collect dust. NO MORE! I am not giving in on the dog thing any more. I got her another dog webkinz b/c that she can play with online and she does play with it (at least the online version). The robot dogs have not been worth it for me which isn't to say they were bad toys but I think they have limited attraction. I wasted $50 last year on Robo (I think that's the name - not furry, very robotic looking) and more recently that Puppy Grows and Knows your name. I could and should sell them both on Ebay b/c they barely got used. Sorry, but this Santa is avoiding the Biscuit toy this year. BTW, if you do want it, I saw it for $99 in Walmart last night.

My DD (9) is getting one for Christmas. We have lost a good number of pets and I refuse to get any more living creatures. She has been asking for one of the Fur Real ponies forever but I refused to spend so much money on a toy (I'm mean lol). This year she decided Biscuit would be a great toy to ask for, she saw one on display, fell in love with it and has been driving me crazy asking for one.

Biscuit comes completely assembled. :rotfl: Glad I haven't had to deal with the headless horse.

This is her gift for Christmas, she will be getting a few small gifts (clothes & books) but that is all. I sure hope she enjoys it at home as much as she did in the store. She is crazy about stuffed animals and sleeps in a bed full of them. She "feeds" them, brushes them and talks to them. I'm hoping I made the right choice for her, or else we have an expensive fake dog who will collect dust.

I have no experience w/Bisquit....but consider Squawkers McCaw. He was last years super, duper interactive pet. His price has gone down considerably since then and he is interactive, cute and entertaining. Also petable! Just a thought!

I am still thinking about it. We probably shouldn't but on the other hand, I look at my DD14 and was able to give her some amazing surprises when she "believed" and would not trade those for any amount of money. This DD is 9 and I know my years of her still "believing" are limited and this would be something she would remember for a long time and I would never forget. I just wish the economy wasn't so iffy, I would be quicker to make this decision. But, if nothing else, this shaky economy is making me a lot more thoughtful with my purchases.

I was happy to hear that BelleBeautyandtheBeast said her DD liked it, as I am leaning towards getting it. That was my concern. Not so much the money, like I said I would rather her have it than me have anything, I just want to be sure it is fun for her. Also, thanks for the Squawkers McCaw tip. I looked at it, but I think it I am going to do it I will go for waht she really wants.

Thanks everyone! Merry Christmas!

My DD7 also desperately wants a pet but cannot have one due to asthma and allergies. This year Santa is bring Lucky the Wonder Pup. It has gotten good reviews, so it may be a good alternative if you don't want to spend as much, or in my case if you don't want something that big!

:rotfl2: Last christmas DD6 was getting Butterscotch from Santa. So Christmas Eve DH and I opened the box to see a horse head staring at us. Looked like something out of the Godfather.:rotfl2:

Exactly what I meant! They should put a huge warning on the box or something so parents know to open the box first.
Butterscotch came in a huge box. I'd had it hidden in the garage covered up since UPS delivered it. Don't know why I didn't check it beforehand but we just taped wrapping paper to the box and put it under the tree in the wee hours of the morning last Christmas. It was the only big thing on her list, so it was a huge deal for her. I can still hear the scream when she opened the box and saw that headless horse.
I'm sure it'll be one of those childhood traumas that we'll hear about when she's grown up but looking back a year later it really is just too funny...:lmao:

Good to know Biscuit is fully assembled inside his box. I'm happy to see it more reasonably priced but wondering if prices will come down any more in the next two weeks. There seem to be an awful lot of them left in stores around here. By contrast, Butterscotch and the S'mores pony were both completely gone locally before Thanksgiving last year.

So, anyone else out there have this? Does it seem to get played with? Everything I buy I look at as where will it be in 6 months. It usually makes the desision on purchases easy but with this I just don't know.
Thanks

Has she seen it in action in the store? We've boughten several of the furreal toys in the past that DD has wanted but then she'd never play with them as they felt too mechanical under the skin, it creeped her out to hug them.

No, she has never seen it or mentioned it to my knowledge. She wrote to Santa for a "robot dog", but not one specifically. It's just that her reasons made me feel like this was the direction I wanted to go. It seems the most real of any, of course I know it is a toy. Thanks for telling me yours have been very mechanical. I have yet to see one on display anywhere.

We bought every imaginable robot dog for DD and she never really got into any of them. Biscuit looks cute, but I agree he's pricey. Of course, it's only the fraction of the cost of a real dog! That's one vet visit! DD has her fill now with two real labbies, you can't turn them off or decide not to play!

I saw the display at Target, they also had the pony and dino.

If you are considering getting one, check your Wal-Mart.

My co-worker called two Wal-marts today looking for it. They both had 3 in stock and they were on sale for $99.

Well, I decided to get it, but now I have waited too long and all the walmarts and Kohl's are sold out. I can't pay $180 for it at target. I am calling stores now near my grandparenst and hoping they have it and they can get it for me. We are going there for Christmas. I am jsut afraid they will say i am crazy for spending $100 on a fake dog, and they are probably right, but I jsut picture DD9 and DD6 waking up to him christmas morning...:goodvibes

Thanks everyone...
