Anyone have any luck with reasonable flights for aug 07?

We were really restricted for August dates as my boss picked out the middle two weeks of the school holidays so found it very tight and have paid exactly what Johnny stated with Virgin.

I really did not want to wait as not only were we tight for time we also booked a Disney cruise for the first Thursday so did not want to take any chances.

Oh for 3000 airmiles!

There are some pretty simple ways of ratcheting up your miles. If you sign up for Virgin Wines, you get 1000 miles for your first order and 750 for subsequent orders. Virgin Poker will qualify you for 5000 miles for an outlay of around $20 (with the potential to recoup more than your stake in winnings). And you can buy miles, of course.

Virgin have been a wash-out, we too have miles to spend but there are no seats available. At the moment BA are coming up cheapest at £2400 for two adults two children. If we had a few more Airmiles it would be £1800! Oh for 3000 airmiles!

Think I'm going to bite the bullet and book BA. Just can't take the risk....

Welcome to my world / boat / party! Seeing as you are now the fourth person I know that wanted to use M+M in August, it's obvious why Virgin don't release the seats. They know they'll fill them anyway so why give discounts? Just a tad annoying when to get the points we've had to be loyal customers and spent £1000's in the first place!

I also agree about BA - we were looking at £3800 for 4 adults and 2 children for similar dates. And in February '05 we flew with Virgin, had a minivan and villa hire for £2400. August 2007 is more than double that for the flights and car alone

But of course ... we're not being ripped off are we

The fact that the prices are so high unfortunatley doesn't mean no-one will pay them, as (stated previously) summer still is a popular time to go because of the school holidays and the fact many of us cannot go any other time etc

Seem to tecall us paying £429 adult price a couple of years ago, paying close to double that now.
You are talking £5000 and possibly more with theme park tickets, car hire , spending money etc

We're used to crazy airfare $$$ as well - though not as long flights coming across the pond

What about flying to one of the major US hub cities..and catching another discount airline flight to MCO..??

Although I'm guessing that, like us, direct to Orlando would be preferred!

I have looked into most options, cheapest transatlantic I can find for next August is to NYC at $839, add an internal even if only $99 its still too much. This Aug I paid $590 all in via Chicago. with BMI and TED.

Yes there is plenty of availabilty going end July to Mid Aug for £524.70 plus 2,000 points eg Fri 27th July- Fri 17th Aug but not for returning end of August.
