I'm hosting a bridal shower in the next couple weeks that I just found out about yesterday -it's a long story, but the mother of the bride is an extremely close friend, so I offered to host the shower. Any one have any ideas on favors or decorations? the wedding is on Valentine's Day, so I'm thinking of tying that into the theme some way:D

I used PSA Essentials for invitations and favors for my friend's bridal shower as well as for favors and placecards for my wedding. Their things are very high quality, and I received excellent customer service. Depending on the number of people attending, they are quite economical. I also love the fact that you can theme the shower using invitations, place cards, favors, etc. that all coordinate. Here is their website:

My aunt threw my shower and picked a really cute idea. It's called an "around the clock" shower. When you send out the invites, you assign each person a time (9am, 6pm etc--you can double up if there are too many). That person then brings a gift that is appropriate for that time.

For example
6 am-slippers
10 am- waffle maker
1 pm- soup tureen
2 pm- tea set
6 pm- creme brulee set

etc

It was so cute, and people had fun picking out gifts. Just make sure you explain it on the invite, as some people didn't understand, and thought they had to come at the assigned time (they figured it out before the shower:) )

I was going to suggest the same! The "time of day" shower is my fav!!!

We all would fight over mid-night!!;) :p

Valentine's Day would be so fun! There is so much stuff at your disposal!

Favors could include conversation hearts either in the box still or in a cute silver tin with a ribbon tied around it with a heart tied to it.

Or a cute box or tin with cinnamon imperials inside - you could put a tag on it saying something about their love being red hot :)

Make heart shaped cookies and individually wrap them in a clear bag, tie a cute pink and red plaid ribbon on it with a tag attached thanking them for coming.

Stealing from Elisabeths website you could do a heart shaped cookie cutter with a bag of sugar cookie mix.

A CD burned with love songs.

Decorations -

Hearts! Lots of them! :)

sprinkle hearts on the table, heart name tags (if you need them), hearts on the invitations, string hearts up and hang them in an archway, off your mantel, etc.

vases of red roses, pink roses, or white lilys, stargazer lilys, pink larkspur, white stock, tulips, there are a lot of flowers in those colors, purple works too.

you could use these candy dishes from pottery barn

these heart plates from williams sonoma are so cute - a little expensive, but cute

You could actually give something like the candy dishes from Pottery Barn along with chocolates as a great door prize.

Target has a lot of cute Valentine's stuff out right now too!

A brunch would be a fun thing to do. You could have bagels, cream cheese, some muffins or pastries, fresh fruit, mimosas (passion fruit mimosas), and maybe an egg bake dish if you need it, with some mini chocolate eclaires for dessert. YUM!

I hope I get to throw a shower of some sort around Valentine's Day - it would be so much fun!!

Since its a valentines day weddingYou can do a romance theme lots of hearts, candles, chocolate and flowers. The gifts could also follow the theme breakfast in bed (include the essentials coffee maker, toaster his and her pjs/) candlelight dinners (china candlesticks) bubble baths(things for the bathroom towels etc), collection of romantic movies with a dvd player or songs with a cd player...

Another idea would be fore everyone to bring in a copy of their favorite recipe to share with the bride. Collect them all and put them in a pretty resipe box or book, You could also tie this idea to the time of day theme.

My favorite thing that we did at my sister's shower was to buy a very light-weight, skimpy nightie. We tied helium balloons to the straps and stuffed it in a huge box. We usually have showers where the bridesmaids open the gifts and pass them to the bride to display. On this box, we wrote, "To be opened ONLY by the Bride. To the Bride: Open the top of the box and step back."

She was scared about what was going to jump out at her.

Then, she and everyone else saw the balloons coming out of the box and you heard a big "aww" from the crowd. Then laughter as the nightie emerged and floated across the room.

That is my favorite thing for showers when no one has ever seen it done before. Two things to remember... take the nightie to the store when you buy the balloons so you buy enough of them, and you need a REALLY big box. I found one outside of a drug company that worked for us.

Everyone else has given you great advice on decorations, etc. For food, my favorite house shower food (most of our showers are done at a restaurant or hall) was in Downingtown, PA. The hostess served a spiral sliced ham with tomato slices, lettuce and various cheeses with croissants that were freshly reheated in the oven so they were crispy. She complimented this with a pineapple dressing. I plan on doing something similar for my DS's Communion party in May.

For my bridal shower they did that, however each person had to bring a few ingredients of their recipe. It was a nice way to start up my kitchen with things. Some people brought measuring spoons and utencils with their recipe others brought canned goods and stuff, it was really neat:D

Speaking as a recent bride who hardly has any kitchen supplies, that's a GREAT idea! I got lots of kitchen towels, but no recipe ingredients (like flour, sugar, etc.), and that would've been great. ::yes::

Are you looking for bridal shower games also?
I'm the queen of bridal shower games!! LOL

Bridal bingo: make a blank bingo card. Have guests fill in the boxes with what they think the bride will recieve as gifts. I think since it's a V-Day theme, use those conversation hearts as markers.

How well does the bride know the groom: Ahead of time ask the groom some questions about himself. What is his favorite color, drink, etc. What was the name of his first girlfriend, etc. Then at the shower ask the bride the questions and see how she does.

How well do you know the bride: Same thing as above, except the guests answer a list of questions on paper. Then ask questions to the bride and see who "knows" her best.

At my shower, which was a mexican theme, my bridal party took poloroid pictures of me with each guest. (of course we had to wear sombreros and ponchos). They then hole punched them and tied one to a marraca for each guest as a small but funny token. Perhaps you could incorporate the heart/valentines theme and maybe make them valentines??

Just a few suggestions. I've hosted and been to a ton of showers. I'm sure there are plenty more games where that came from if you are interested pm me.

Have fun!!
