DD8 has been begging for once since last year. Buying one is so not in our budget because a. you can't get them thru AG and b. the prices on amazon and ebay are outrageous and c DH had a bone marrow transplant this year so xmas budget is wicked tight. So DH and I have decided to try make one. We are both very handy with tools and although it won't look exactly the same, I think we can come close enough.

If you have the camper and wouldn't mind helping us out, I need dimensions, how tall, lenght, width, size of shower, bed, windows. I know it's a lot to ask but I would be so grateful to anyone willing to help us out. :worship::worship::worship::worship:

Also, and I know I'm pushing it here but some pics would be awesome!

Thanks in advance!!!

Check out the AG Playthings site. They have a whole section on Lanie and her things, and I believe at least one home made camper.

As said- I think someone on agplaythings.com made one. (You have to sign up to use the site.)

The camper is awfully tiny though (like bed only fits one doll, bed folds down so you can't use table at the same time, etc.) I think if I were doing, I'd almost rather start with a regular camper as a base and scale down. A solid trailer would be awfully big (which is why I'm sure AG smooshed it all together)- I wonder about a pop-up sort of trailer? Could be fun.

DD wanted Kit's treehouse, but thought it was too small. If your DD has any interest in that, I have photos of how we did hers. It is more like a small camp cabin almost.

I googled it, and here is the description:

Product Description This set gives Lanie the perfect way to explore the great outdoors: * A camper that's big enough for a doll to fit inside, with a faux shower and curtain plus a mini refrigerator, play stove, a bench that opens for storage space, and a message board that pulls down to create a bed * A speckled camp cup and plate * A red teapot * A yellow saucepan and embroidered potholder * A recycling bin * A soft bench cushion * A sleeping bag with an embroidered butterfly * A pretend loaf of bread and jars of peanut butter and jelly * A pretend pasta box and jar of sauce * Two each pretend juice cans and drink cartons * Nine sheets of removable stickers for decorating the camper Product Specifications Approximate weight: 43 pounds. W: 11 1/4" x H: 26" x L: 31 1/2"

It received many bad reviews. I would think of doing something different for your daughter. I know it's hard to say no, but some gifts are just not worth it. Many of the posters on other boards are using the color scheme and making camping theme from it, and others are going to the local hobby shop and making something similar but sturdy enough for a child to play with. We have a thread about people helping out this year with IDEA'S. I will link your thread to it.

I'm not up on American Girl culture (I read all the books in the late 1980s, but that's about it!), so if my suggestion is totally off base, just skip it. Could you maybe make cool tent set up for the doll? Like a cabin tent with a little kitchen, a cot, and then outside a picnic table and fireplace? Or even get one of those small display tents (I've seen them on eBay) like what they have to show what a full sized tent looks like.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the information and great resources! Can't wait to get started. I'll post pics if it comes out right, LOL : )

I would love to see pictures & instructions you have for making Kit's treehouse or anything close to it! My DD5 is asking for it and I can never justify the $300 -$400 they are asking for it on ebay! I asked my DH if he could make her one and he said he had no idea where to start. Any advice appreciated! TIA!!

Check out Knock on Wood on Facebook. Or you can google Ana White, she is amazing at woodworking and even more amazing at helping people.

Yes, PLEASE post pics. Would love to see how you made it.

We did not make the camper or Kit's tree house but we did make a house for my dd last Christmas. I'll post pics in case anyone is looking for ideas for a house. :)

With my dd who was 8, for size reference.

The top doors open. Since it is the whole depth of it, there is tons of storage for all her extra furniture pieces (she is constantly changing rooms around) and one side has a rod for hanging her doll clothes.

That is an awesome looking house! Cute little peeping tom as well!!!:rotfl2:

The doll house is amazing! You did an awesome job on it!

Where the heck do you keep something that big? I can't imagine trying to find space for it. Do you have a playroom for the kids' toys?

WOW that is absolutely AMAZING!!!!!!!
