Anyone Have a Turkey Fryer?

I just bought one today on my lunch hour and I'm planning to use it for Christmas.

Any words of wisdom?

Do you use it for anything other than turkeys?

No turkey fryer here, but be careful with that thing!

Local paper had an article about a guy burning down his garage on Thanksgiving when the fryer exploded.

His wife just had had a baby a few days before and he was trying to be "helpful" and cook the turkey for her.

We don't have one but my BIL does and his Thanksgiving turkey was delicious and it cooked very fast. Good luck with it and be careful.

I heard the stories about the dangers too.

But, DH has had turkey several times cooked in one and tells me there is nothing like it. Absolutely awesome. One of these days when our DS3 is a little older and a little less hands on, we'll probably buy one.

the water for steam clams and also lobsters.....this also can be done outside and so easy......our neighbor has the fryer for turkeys and she has used it only twice.......with turkeys on sale for 48 cents a pound ...sounds like a good deal to me

I have had turkey cooked in the deep fryer and it is very juicy! You can buy all kinds of marinades that you then inject into the turkey.

I always thought it would be greasy, but it's not. The outside gets a crisp skin and I always avoid the skin anyway, the turkey on the inside is great.

We have one. DH and DS take it along on a lot of Boy Scout campouts.

The turkey is very tasty.

I bought one last year. We rarely use it. Fried turkey is ok, but not something I care too much for. Be sure to buy lots of peanut oil and some injection flavorings.

We used it this past summer to boil our corn that we got out of the garden.

My dad has one! Deep fried turkey ~ YUM YUM!! It is so tender and juicy. Dad also likes to use his for making a HUGE pot of soup! Also like browneyes said ~ it works good for boiling corn.

If you do not overfill the oil and pay attention to what you are doing ~ they are not dangerous.
